Ikorodu Constituencies’ State Assembly Seats: Ogunleye, Aro, Lawal, Olaiwola Make INEC Final List For 2023 General Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, uploaded the final list for the Governorship and State Assembly elections on the Commission’s website.

The electoral umpire had on Tuesday said that 18 political parties nominated a total of 837 candidates and their running mates for the Governorship elections in 28 States out of the 36 on the Federation

Also, according to INEC, a total of 10, 231 candidates are jostling for 993 State Assembly seats.

In a statement on its website, the electoral body said that it was releasing the final list in pursuant to the provision of Section 32(1) of the Electoral Act 2022 and as provided in the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2023 General Election.

“Nigeria’s 2023 General Election is scheduled to hold in two phases beginning with national elections (Presidential and National Assembly) on Saturday 25th February 2023 and State elections (Governorship and State Houses of Assembly) on Saturday 11th March 2023”.

“Pursuant to the provision of Section 32(1) of the Electoral Act 2022 and as provided in the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2023 General Election released by the Commission on 26th February 2022, this publication contains the final list of candidates nominated by the 18 political parties for State elections”, it stated.

“It covers Governorship candidates and their running mates for 28 out of the 36 States of the Federation. This is so because in eight States (Anambra, Bayelsa, Edo, Ekiti, Imo, Kogi, Osun and Ondo), elections to the offices of Governors are held off-cycle and not part of the general election. Furthermore, the publication also covers 993 State Houses of Assembly constituencies.

Mr Olalekan Olamide Lawal and Prince Adewale Isiaka Oyebo, PDP candidates for the Ikorodu Constituency I and II seats.

“The list has been published in all the relevant offices of the Commission nationwide and simultaneously uploaded to the Commission’s website for public information”.

According to the list, 16 political parties are fielding Governorship and running mates in Lagos State.

A total of 18 candidates are vying for the two Ikorodu Constituency seats, while 8 parties are fielding candidates for the sole seat in Constituency I, 10 are contesting for the Constituency II seat.

The son of the former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Mr Gbolahan Adetokunbo Ogunleye made the final list as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Ikorodu Constituency I seat.

From his details on the INEC website, the 47 years old and former Sole Administrator, Ikorodu Local Government, did not submit his controversial University certificate to INEC, but his Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE).

Aro Moshood Abiodun, popularly called ‘AMA’, also made the list as the APC candidate for Ikorodu Constituency II. He is vying with his SSCE and University degree certificates.

Lawal Olamide Olalekan, 38, who is the PDP candidate for the Ikorodu Constituency I holds first degree certificate, while Oyebo Adewale Isiaka, the candidate of the PDP for the Ikorodu Constituency II is vying with his secondary school certificate.
