-Dr Olaleye To Pilot LASPOTECH Termination As Rector
There has been major restructuring in the Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), as the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, appointed Prof. Olumuyiwa Odusanya as the pioneer Vice–Chancellor of the institution.
The new VC, Prof. Odusanya, is a professor of Community and Primary Health in the Department of Community Health and Primary Health Care in the Faculty Clinical Sciences, College of Medicine, Lagos State University (LASU).
This appointment was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Public Affairs Unit, Office of the Special Adviser on Education (OSAE).
It was noted in the statement that the appointment of Odusanya as the substantive VC of the university took effect from September 29, 2022.
Dr Nurudeen Olaleye, the former Rector of the Lagos State Polytechnic, who was announced by the Governor as the acting VC for the LASUSTECH in February, 2022, after the transmutation of LASPOTECH to LASUSTECH, will revert to his old position as the Rector of LASPOTECH pending the termination of the institution as a Polytechnic. .
The statement states that:
“lt has become imperative to appoint a substantive Vice- Chancellor for LASUSTECH to ensure that there is no void in the university’s leadership and to maintain the necessary stability of the institution”.
“Odusanya was born on February 8, 1965. He is a Professor of Public and Community Health and a Fellow of the Medical College in Public Health and Community Medicine. He holds a Master of Public Health from the University of Lagos. Until his new appointment, Odusanya was a Professor of Community and Primary Health in the Department of Community Health and Primary Health Care, Faculty of Clinical Sciences, College of Medicine, Lagos State University”.
OSAE commended Dr Olaleye for using his wealth of experience to midwife the polytechnic into a University, stating that posterity will judge him for his good work.
Meanwhile, speaking with a reliable source in the Office of the Special Adviser for Education (OSAE), he explained that Dr Olaleye will see out the remaining three years remaining on his five years term as Rector.
“The arrangement is that the new acting VC from LASU will take charge of the new intake for LASUSTECH as a University, while Dr Olaleye will go back to his old position as Rector of LASPOTECH to oversee the completion of the existing National and Higher National Programmes (HND).
“The implications is that the new VC would be incharge of LASUSTECH while Dr Olaleye would administer LASPOTECH and they will operate the two simultaneously.
The restructuring, THE IMPACT gathered, may be as a result of the full accreditation of the institution which THE IMPACT gathered that the officials of the National University Commission (NUC) has been on ground for.
It is gathered that the appointment of a substantive VC with full professorial status is a major requirement for the full takeoff of the new University.
THE IMPACT also gathered that the entire staff of the former Lagos State Polytechnic have been given letters to transfer their service to LASUSTECH.
