Residents of Ikorodu woke up on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, to the sad news of the death of the popular socialite and community developer, Mr Hammed Borokinni, popularly called, ‘Boro’.
According to the report, the deceased died in his sleep on early Wednesday.
It was gathered that late Borokinni still contributed to discussions on WhatApp platforms that he belonged to around 9pm the night before his death without showing any sign that he would be giving up the ghost anytime soon.
He was, until his death, a senior staff of the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) and the Internal Auditor of the Ikorodu – Oga Development Association (IKODASS).
THE IMPACT gathered that ‘Boro’ was seriously sick months back, but was recovering fast until his death.
His remains have been buried in accordance with Islamic rites amidst wailing and lamentation as many mourners lamented his untimely death.
Most of the sympathisers, who did not believe the sad news about Borokini’s death, when it was circulated on the social platforms early Wednesday, started trooping to his house and many broke down on confirming his demise.
At the Igbogbo cemetery where his remains were buried, were large numbers of family members, staff of the LIRS, members of the Ikorodu – Oga Development Association (IKODASS), friends and other mourners.
His widow, Mrs Silifat Borokinni, who is also a senior staff of the LIRS, and his son were seen in a very sad mood and were consoled by family members and friends.
Chieftains and members of the social and political group that late ‘Boro’ belonged to while alive, The Development Platform, most of whom are his childhood friends, led by its President, Engr. Abiodun Isikalu, were fully on ground to prepare his remains for proper burial.
Mr Lanre Kalejaiye, Chairman, Class Set of 1995, Oriwu College Old Students’ Association of Nigeria (OCOSAN) led members of his set to the burial to identify with the late Borokinni’s widow who is a member of the set,
Many of the LIRS staff described late Borokinni as a dutiful and very accommodating person who is always fun to be with.
“Oh! This should not be. He was such a nice guy and very accommodating person to work with”, a senior LIRS official was seen lamenting in the midst of his colleagues and other mourners.
Another LIRS staff who also lamented Borokinni’s death, said:
“I really didn’t believe the news until I got here (cemetery). He was a lovely guy and we are all going to miss Boro”, he said.
“He was a good guy and very accommodating person who recovered from a serious illness and was getting back fully. It’s a very sad event”, he added.
Mr Rotimi Erogbogbo, Chairman, IKODASS, who led other executive members of the socio – cultural association to the burial, described late Borokinni as a great and reliable man when he was alive.
Erogbogbo commended him for his services to IKODASS and Ikorodu at large while alive and ststed that he would be missed.
IKODASS, in its official statement on his death signed by its Publicity Secretary, Prince Adekunle Bada, prayed to God to comfort his family.
“As we condole with his family, it is our prayer that Almighty God will comfort the wife and children he left behind and grants the entire family fortitude to bear the irreparable loss”, he said.
“Our hearts are with his family.May Allah grants him Aljanat Firdaus”.
Mr. Hammed Borokini is survived by wife, children & family members.
Former IKODASS Chairman and former Special Adviser on Education, Lagos State, Otunba Fatai Olukoga, also commenting on his death, said:
“May Allah grants him eternal Aljana Firdaus and gives his family the serenity to withhold his irreplaceable loss”.
Otunba Ganiyu Abiru, the Executive Secretary, Ikorodu Division Peace Initiative Limited/GTE and the immediate past IKODASS Chairman, in his own statement, said:
“May the good Lord rest his soul and overlook his errors with gracious forgiveness.
“Good guy he was. A sad loss indeed”, he added.
