The 31st edition of the annual Ikorodu – Oga Development Association (IKODASS) has commenced with the unveiling of logo, official Ankara fabric and programme of activities for the celebrations.
The General Council of the Ikorodu – Oga Development Association (IKODASS) comprising of the entire clubs, associations and societies in Ikorodu gave the approval for the commencement of this year’s edition of the annual celebration at a meeting held at the Oteju Hall, Ikorodu Ultra – Modern Town Hall, Ikorodu on Sunday, September 25, 2022.
This year’s Ikorodu – Oga Day is themed, ‘Culture, Tourism & The New Economy’.
The approval was granted by the general house following a motion that was moved by the former Deputy Chairman, Alhaji Ganiu Wahab, that the 2022 edition of the Carnival recognised by the State government should commence immediately which was supported by general members in attendance.
Following the general Council’s directive, the official logo was unveiled by the IKODASS Chairman, Mr Rotimi Erogbogbo, with support of his executive members.
Also unveiled and shared at the event was the programme of events.
Consequently, Mr Erogbogbo pleaded with clubs and societies as well as indigenes and residents alike to take part and be fully involved in the celebrations.
He announced that different committees have been set up and anyone interested in participating in any form should contact the association.
According to the programme of events released, pre – festival activities will commenced Saturday, October 29, with ‘ Say No To Drugs And Fitness Walk’.
The start point for the walk is the Ita Elewa Mini Stadum from where participants would walk round the city before berthing at the Ayangbure Palace which is the end point.
There will also be Rye Cycling Competition on the same day.
On Friday, November 11th, there would be Table Tennis Competition at the Ikorodu Ultra Modern Town Hall.
However, the Carnival celebrations is scheduled to properly hold between Saturday, November 12th to Saturday, November 19th, 2022.
As usual, the weeklong celebrations would take off with Inter – religious service and the traditional Woro procession at the Ikorodu Town Hall. These would be followed by the Heritage performance at the Ayangbure Palace; Fellow and Associates awards at the Ikorodu Town Hall.
The Market Expo will also commence on the same day and last till Friday, November 18.
Furthermore, there will be Ram Fight and the second edition of the Royal Banquet/Achievers Award at the Ikorodu Ultra Modern Town Hall on Sunday, November 13.
Some of the other events unveiled were Food Festival, Ijebu Dialect Debate, Widows/Elders Empowerment, Heritage and Role Model awards, Miss Ikorodu Beauty Pageant, Young Achievers award, Market Day, Oga Social Nire and Pubic Service Day.
The grand finale of the 31st Ikorodu- Oga Carnival will hold at the Ayangbure Palace on Saturday, November 19th.
