The annual gesture of Dr Tajudeen Ogbara, an Ikorodu – born medical doctor based in the United States of America (USA) to his alma mata and the premier college in Ikorodu, Oriwu College (now Oriwu Senior and Junior Model Colleges, Ikorodu), has been acknowledged and commended by the Principals of both schools.
The acknowledgment of the gesture by the former student of the school came during the 2021-22 Prize Giving Day/Recognition Awards ceremony held at the school hall on Wednesday, September 22, 2022.
Commending the gesture, Mr Akeem Bello, Principal, Oriwu Senior Model College, Ikorodu, announced in the present of eminent people and former students of the school that the Dr Ogbara provides food scholarship worth N250, 000 and make laptops available for best students in WAEC and junior WAEC, every term.
The Tutor – General-Permanent Secretary, Education District II, Mrs Anike Adekanye presented the food scholarship to the 10 benefitting students and their parents at the ceremony.
“Today, we shall also be presenting some students with food scholarship letters from Dr Tajudeen Ogbara. He commits N250, 000 every term for food scholarship for our students. This I also found out from my predecessor and I was made to know that he has been doing that before. We thank him for this gesture”, Mr Bello said..
“Every year, he also provides laptops for the Best WAEC and junior WAEC students and at the same time, gives numerous items to the school and teachers”.
Principal of the Oriwu Junior Model College, Ikorodu, who received the laptop for the junior class, also thanked the donors.
The Principal, who said that the junior school has been responsible for feeding the senior school with quality students, also announced that the school made 98% passes in its last junior WAEC.
Aina Kolapo, the Best student in WAEC 2021-22 session who made five As and 3Bs, speaking at the event, said that he was encouraged to make a name for himself, by the calibre of former students of Oriwu College.
He also assured that he too would return to give back to the school while also charging students that are still in the college to believe in God and work harder in order to be celebrated too.
He equally thanked Dr. Ogbara for donating the laptop gifted to him.
