The much expected annual Adeboruwa Cup will commence Friday, September 16, 2022, with 24 teams participating in this year’s edition.
The tournament, which takes place at the Igbogbo Township Stadium, Igbogbo, annually, however, will be played at the United African Methodist Primary School (Eleja), Igbogbo along Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu Way (formerly Agbele Road), this year, due to the ongoing redevelopment of the stadium.
This year’s edition is powered by Prince Moyosore Ogunlewe, Chairman, Kosofe Local Government.
Ayegbami FC, the defending champions, will play host to the Ire Akari Estate FC at 1pm in the opening match that many dignitaries are expected to attend.
On the same day, Oreyo FC will play Itunla Boys in the second match.
In other matches for this weekend, Oliwo Amoju FC will play host to Adeyanlu Estate at 1pm on Saturday, September 17, while the second match will be between Agbele Road FC and Aina Olowu FC.
Mr Tolulope Faniyi, Chairman, Sports Sub – Committee, 2022 Igbogbo Day Planning Committee, organisers of the Adeboruwa Cup 2022, speaking with THE IMPACT, assured football lovers and entire residents of Igbogbo of good entertaining football and good officiating and organization generally.
He appealed to spectators that would be coming to watch matches to do so with the spirit of sportsmanship and support their respective teams peacefully.
Other teams in the tournament are Agunfoye FC, Awobo Ololo Street FC, Offin Ile FC, Pineapple Estate FC, IfeOluwa CDA FC, Kajola Olayinka FC, Apalura FC, Oga Oloye FC, Wagbare FC, Adegbose FC, Olu Odo Estate FC and Otungbuwa Bombers FC.
On Sunday, September 18, Stadium Road FC and Lajo FC will play in the first match at 1pm, while Selewu United FC will host Bashorun Street in the second match.
It would be recalled that Ayegabmi FC beat Stadium/Olayinka Road FC 4 – 2 via penalty to lift the cup last year.
