The Salvation Army Primary School, Ikorodu, has received another individual intervention with another block of classrooms fully rehabilitated for the use of students who are due for resumption soon.
The rehabilitation of the block which has been abandoned for several years, THE IMPACT gathered, was done by a United Kingdom – based Ikorodu indigene, Dr Junaid Sholebo.
It was gathered that the classrooms with ceiling fans and white boards, are going to be supplied with chairs and tables.
The intervention was coming after Asipa Kaoli Olusanya, a former Commissioner for Agriculture, Lagos State, rehabilitated another abandoned block of 12 classrooms and built 12 toilets in July in commemoration of his 70th birthday.
We also gathered that the Ikorodu – Oga Development Association (IKODASS) administration, between 2013 and 2015, initiated the construction of the block of three classrooms facilitated by Sen. Ashafa through the U.B.E project, but the building has not been in use for a long time because the floor has collapsed.
Most of the iron windows and doors are also gone and the ceiling vandalized, and before the perimeter fencing was recently done, human and livestocks’ defecated in the classrooms at will.
THE IMPACT had written reports calling the attention of the government and entire community to the dilapidated and threatening state of the buildings within the school. Public attention was brought more on the school when we reported the collapsed of a ceiling on pupils of the school in September 2021, which injured some students.
It was also gathered that the Ayangbure of Ikorodu, His Royal Majesty, Oba Kabir Shotobi, also played a vital role in mobilizing intervention for the school rehabilitation.
The rehabilitated structure will be commissioned next week by the Ayangbure of Ikorodu and other dignitaries.
Meanwhile, after several years of neglecting the school which necessitated interventions by individulals, the Ikorodu Local Government under the administration of Hon. Wasiu Adeshina as Chairman, has also laid the foundation of the another structure at the location of the main structure within the school.
The structure was pulled down some months back by the council.
It was gathered that the foundation laying ceremony took place last week and there was two big project boards outside the school gate and within announcing the proposed reconstruction.
