This year’s biennial Leadership Training of The African Lads and Lasses Brigade has commenced today in Igbogbo, Ikorodu Division of Lagos State, Southwest, Nigeria.
The 8 – day camping holding at the Lagos State Civil Service Model College, Igbogbo, was officially declared opened by the Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture, Lagos State, Ms Abisola Ruth Olusanya.
The training, which is themed, ‘Engaging The Youths For A Maximum Productivity”, is tagged, ‘Igbogbo 2022’.
Also at the opening of the camp were His Royal Majesty, Oba Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali, the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, Honourable Commissioner for Youths and Social Development, Mr Segun Dawodu and others. They were welcomed to the camp with parade by officers and members of the Lads & Lasses Brigade.
Meanwhile, Commissioner Ms Olusanya, who was represented by Dr Adeyemi Michael, a Director in the Ministry of Agriculture, said that the training will open participants’ minds to the truth which would prepare them for the future.
While commending the organization for bringing youths together for training, she also charged the rank and file of the Lads and Lasses Brigade to take to farming for sustainable living.
“There is this newspaper called, The Nigeria, with the slogan, ‘know the truth and the trust shall set you free’. You are here to know the truth”, she said.
While stating that Agriculture has brought in more revenue than any other sector, the Commissioner charged youths at the camp to venture into farming to enhance security and employment.
“No matter the course that you might have gone for, you still have to come back to the ‘Green Nation”, she said.
“In the Ministry of Agriculture, we have a lot of value chains like fish, planting of crops, poultry red meat, vegetable and other value chains. In the fish value chain, you can have drums at the back of your house to breed fish and that would give you what you can live upon”.
She said that agriculture is the way forward for sustainable living .
While thanking the Adeboruwa of lgbogbo for hosting members of the Brigade in his domain, the Commissioner also charged participants at the camp to follow strictly rules and listen attentively to their instructors.
“We thank our Kabiyesi for allowing us to stay in his domain. Yesterday, the Almghty God has given us permission to stay in this area for the next 8 days when we attended the opening day Church Service”, she said.
“I will only urge you to obey all the rules that the Lagos State Executives have placed before you and you must know that you are here for training.
“We all understand the situations in the country and I charge you all to listen to all that you will be taught so that at the end of the day, it will impact on your life.
“You should also ensure that whatever you will be taught here are taken back to your various destinations and allow it reflect in you when you go back to your various churches. Let it be known that you have gone through a decent training and that you are also from Christian homes.
She also charged them to always have faith in the Lord.
The representative of the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, welcomed rank and file of The African Church Lads & Lasses Bridgade to the 2023 camp in Igbogbo.
He commended the parade by members of the Brigade and thanked God for making them part of a productive organisation instead of joining those that engage in negative vices.
The royal father prayed for the officers and members of the Brigade and thanked them for chosing igbogbo for their camp.
Barr Adesanya Kole, State Legal Adviser of the Brigade, while also speaking, said that the training is aimed at developing the youths and make them better persons.
“We have all passed through this stage of life that you are now passing through. The essence of this type of organisation is to develop you spiritually and develop you for the future”, he said.
He charged them to prepare themselves for the future and always remember the children of whom they are in all their dealings.
“Shun all bad groups and concentrate on the training that you have been given spiritually and academically.
Meritorious awards were presented to the camp houses owners: Dr Adebisi Odunlami, Prince Adesegun Ogunlewe, Mr Segun Dawodu, Barr. Ademola Adepegba, Alhaji Engr. Olawale Agboola, Engr. M.O. Williams, Engr. Adeleye A. Akapo and Engr. E.O.B. Durowoju.
The camp began on Sunday, August 28 and will end on Sunday, August 4, 2022.
