The Igbogbo Platinum Lions Club has received royal blessings and commendations from the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom, Oba Semiudeen Kasali, for helping in eradicating hunger in the land by extending food support to many residents.
The revered monarch said that the club’s gesture would go a long way in supporting what the palace and others have been doing in making food available for those that cannot afford it.
The distribution witnessed many old and young residents trooping into the Adeboruwa palace in Igbogbo, the venue for the exercise, to get their rations.
While older residents were presented with packs containing beans, rice, garri, groundnut oil, salt, sugar, indomie noodles, maggie, semovita among others, children that were on ground were given two sachet of indomie noodles each.
Among the beneficiaries were blind residents who also came into the palace premises to receive their packages.
Oba Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali, the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, who was visited by the members of the club, commended the gesture.
The royal father, while stating that he was proud to identify with the club, also commended the club for equally given business support to residents, and stated that the gesture would go a long way in creating employment and make people productive.
“I want to thank you and commend you for complementing our efforts with your own little way of putting smiles on the faces of our people which is what we have known Lions Club for”, the royal father said.
“Of course, I don’t expect anything less. As a Honourary Fellow of this noble club, I want to say that I am proud to be associated with you and thank you for putting smiles on the faces of my people and doing what God has asked us to do in assisting our neighbours and be our brother’s keeper”.
The royal father also solicited for more of such support from the Lions Club, while he also prayed for members.
“As you can see, our people are in need of interventions like this to cushion the effects of the economic hardship. I want to say a big thank you to the President and all members of his team and to say that Igbogbo community appreciates you and like Oliver Twist, we asked that this must be a continues exercise because what is obtainable outside which you would have might have seen during the exercise today”, Oba Kasali said.
“I pray that God will continue to bless you. Thank you for doing this today for God and sake of humanity”
Meanwhile, Lion (Mrs) Ashake Wahab, President, Igbogbo Platinum Lions Club 2022/2023, said that the gesture was Lions Club’s way of assisting those that cannot afford what to eat.
“This is a programme organized to address the challenges of hunger in our society. It is our own way of making food items available to people that cannot afford meals daily ”, she said.
“It’s part of the Lions Club efforts to relieve people of hunger”.
She said that about 300 residents benefited from the food distribution.
“We have been able to distribute packs of food items to about 300 people in the community and you can see how happy they were while receiving those packs.
“There is hunger in the land with many unable to provide food themselves and families. As Lions, it is our duty to care for them”, she said.
Many of the residents that benefitted from the gesture also lauded the club and prayed for its continuous existence.
