Ahead of the Oro Meri festival holding on Monday, August 15, 2022, the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, His Royal Majesty, Oba Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali, Emugoriade I, the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom, has issued warning to youths and other male residents participating in the coming Oro Meri festival to desist from harassing people going to work.
The royal father said that every measure has been put in place to ensure that the community records a successful festival.
Like the last Oro festival held few weeks ago, female residents are expected to stay indoor from 12midnight today till midnight on Monday.
Oro Meri, which is the second annual Oro festival in Igbogbo, is a traditional age – long traditional event used to perform rituals and rites to appease the gods for good harvest and developments and also to ward – off outbreak of epidemic.
Oba Kasali spoke with THE IMPACT in his palace late Saturday (yesterday).
“I thank God that we had a successful Oro Abosan festival which was a delight to me. As we go into the second Oro festival, I pray to God that we shall, again, have a successful outing”, Adeboruwa prayed.
“I want to beg and enjoin our people that they must comport themselves in whatever ways in accordance with the guidelines that have been issued.
While stating that the festival is coming up on Monday, the royal father also assured residents going about their businesses of protection.
He warned that anyone that fails to comply with the laid down rules will be dealt with in lines with the appropriate laws.
“We are aware that it is coming up on a working day and we have put necessary measures in place during our meeting with concerned people. They have also set up a special taskforce to see that people going to work or carrying out other businesses are not harassed”, the royal father said.
“It is on Monday and we are doing everything to ensure that everything go smoothly.
“As the monarch who is a lawyer, I shall see to it that the laws are comply with and I have told enforcement agents to arrest anyone that breaches the law or harass anybody.
“Nobody has any right to beat the other who does not hold a cane or accept to counter whipping with you.
“As we have been doing before, we shall take our prayer to God and usher in good developments with this year’s edition.
“I am pleading with our people to show restraint during the festival and of course, ask the entire residents to bear with us and stay indoor for just Monday till the midnight on that day when everything will be over”, Adeboruwa charged.
