The acting Vice Chancellor, Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), Dr Oluremi Olaleye, has denied campaigning for any particular candidate for the 2023 General Elections.
Dr Oluremi, who said that he would not have acted ignorantly knowing well that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has not directed political campaign open, also enjoined members of the public to disregard the Facebook post in which he purportedly campaigned for a particular candidate, though, he did not mention the candidate he was alleged to have campaigned for.
He issued the statement on his personal Facebook account with the name, ‘Oluremi Olaleye’.
But our search on Sunday morning revealed another Facebook account with the full name of the VC and his photograph, ‘Oluremi Nurudeen Olaleye’. However, the purported endorsement post is not on either of the Facebook page.
Meanwhile, THE IMPACT gathered that the VC allegedly canvassed for Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to emerge as the next President of Nigeria.
Many of those that commented on the VC’s refutal also said that they have been noticing strange posts on the said Facebook account.
Dr Oluremi’s refutal is reproduced below:
Re-Campaign for a candidate on Facebook
Dear all,
Kindly disregard the Facebook post where I was quoted as campaigning for a particular candidate.
As much as I have the constitutional right to support a candidate of my choice, I won’t descend so low to do that in violation of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Electoral Act.
INEC has not declared the campaign period open.
The Facebook account was forged by mischievous people to tarnish my image.
The matter will be reported to appropriate quarters.
Thanks.
