The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has told party stakeholders and aggrieved aspirants that contested the last controversial primary elections on the platform of the party that issue of candidates for the party has been resolved.
Sources at the stakeholders’ meeting attended by the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo – Olu, told THE IMPACT that the leadership of the party appealed to the aspirants to accept the decision of the party in the interest of peace and unity within the APC towards the next general elections in 2023.
Also at the meeting held in Lagos were Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, State party chairman, chieftains of the Governance Advisory Council, APC, State party excos, Council and Party Chairmen among other stakeholders.
It was gathered that the governor used his own denial for Commissionership position during a previous administration and later his emergence as Governor of the state to enjoin aggrieved aspirants to abide by the party’s decision.
Sawno – Olu , we also gathered promised that some appointments would be announced soon and that some of the aspirants would be considered.
According to a source who is an aspirant from Ikorodu, he also said that the leadership of the party also charged party and council chairmen to work together for the purpose of achieving electoral victory in the elections.
“Yes, I was at the reconciliation meeting, the leadership of the party told us that issues concerning the selection of APC Candidates in Lagos State have been resolved. It means that those that have been selected stand no room for substitution. That was what they said”, the aspirant said.
“Party and Council Chairmen across the state were also charged to work together with all the party’s candidates.
“They also asked those of us (aspirants) that lost out in the primaries to exercise due restraint, keep faith and remain loyal to the party”.
He added that party leaders also said that, “All Aspirants should be made part of campaign team and that we should go and delivered our ward for the party and that we shall be considered for better opportunity”, he said.
Another aspirant who was in attendance confirmed the resolutions and added that they have no choice but to comply with the directive of the party.
“Yeah, that is true, the party is supreme and we must accept whatever decision the party has taken. Though, many people are still aggrieved but there is nothing that we can do than to work towards the party’s victory in the coming elections”, he said.
“But my major worry is whether any of our council chairmen in Ikorodu is ready to work with party chairmen, excos and aspirants?”, he asked.
The event also presented aspirants the opportunity to express their respective grievances.
Recalled that violence marred the truce meeting called in July at the party secretariat in Acme, Ogba, as the meeting reportedly hijacked by aggrieved party members and thugs.
