Barring any last minutes change, members of the National Union of Lagos Government Employees (NULGE), Lagos State chapter, would on Thursday, August 4, 2022, to go poll to elect their State President and other members of the executive council.
The election will hold at the Union House in Ikeja.
Two groups have since locked horns in the past weeks and also campaigned vigorously against each other, in their bid to take control of the state NULGE, with both criss – crossing the 57 Local Governments (LGs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Lagos State, soliciting support and doing everything to outdone each other.
On one side is the Ajose Mandate Group (AMG) led by Comrade Afolabi Semaku Ajose, the outgoing State President and The Progressives Group (TPG) which is led by a former State President, Comrade Lasisi Akinsanya.
While the AMG is supporting Comrade Ogunfowora Sunday Sewanu from Badagry for the position of State President, the TPG is solidly rooting for Comrade Pelaiye Okanlawon Jamiu from Ikorodu.
Other officers in the Sewanu group are Comrade Adewale Ojora (Deputy President), Comrade Raji Rasak (Treasurer), Comrade Suraj Odusola (Auditor 1), Comrade Ajayi A. DOYINSOLA (Auditor Ii), Comrade Kazeem Adekunle (Welfare Officer), Comrade Tunde Aduloju (PRO), Comrade Tawakalitu Ajoke Balogun (Women Leader), Comrade Kazeem Ogunmuyiwa (Trustee), Comrade Morakinyo (Trustee II) and Comrade Mustapha S.T. Onilado (Youth Workers’ Rep).
Officers going into the elections with Pelaiye are Comrade Mustapha Babatunde Lawal – Deputy President, Comrade Ogunbekun Hafeez (Treasurer), Comrade Fausat Padonu (Women Leader), Comrade Balogun Fatai (Trustee), Comrade Adetomiwa Sola (Trustee), Comrade Obanla Saheed (Auditor), Comrade Idris Abibat Adenike (Auditor), Comrade Olaoti Jamiu Folarin (Welfare Officer), Comrade Sadiq Lawa (PRO) and Comrade Jimoh Nurudeen (Youth Representative).
Comrade Ogunfowora Sunday Sewanu is a doctorate student who had been twice elected NULGE Branch Chairman at Olorunda. On the other hand, Comrade Pelaiye Okanlawon Jamiu had served as Branch Chairman twice, State Treasurer once and is currently State Deputy President.
Comrade Kazeem Ogunmuyiwa, who is vying for the State Trustee position, is from Igbogbo in Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area of Ikorodu Division. He’s a former branch Chairman and respected senior local government staff.
The campaigns between the two groups which used to be Comrade – in – Arm, have resulted in hostilities and consequently led to petitions which were written to the Lagos State Local Government Service Commission, State APC leadership, Head of Service, DSS and police among others.
Also, while there had been interventions by royal fathers to douse the tension between the two groups, their members have equally been threatening one another’s employment with these petitions.
