One of the most important annual traditional festivals in Ikorodu kingdom, Agemo/Eluku festival will start on Tuesday, August 23, 2022.
The festival would be staged for seven days according to the Ayangbure of Ikorodu, His Royal Majesty, Oba Kabor Adewale Shotobi.
The revered royal father revealed this at the 25th anniversary celebration of Kith & Kin Educational Schools which took place at the Ikorodu Town Hall on Friday, July 29, 2022.
“For your information, we are going to celebrate Agemo/Eluku festival this year. We are starting Agemo August on 23rd of August and Eluku is also going to be staged for seven days”, Oba Shotobi revealed.
Speaking further on traditional activities and festivals, the royal fathers said that major festivals are celebrated annually to appease gods.
“Part of the activities that these students displayed which called for the celebration of ‘’Oko Odu’ festival, explained how our ancestors had been doing it with other festivals all the year round”, Ayangbure said.
“They usually start with ‘Odun Osu’, which is a royal festival. This is usually followed by the Magbo (Oro) festival and thereafter, Liwe festival. It is after Liwe that we usually have Agemo/Eluku festival, after which is ‘Ogun’ (god of iron) festival. This is how we celebrate our festivals every year and that is the tradition that our ancestors had established.
“All these festivals are meant to appease our gods. A monarch doesn’t drink blood but engages in appeasing gods”, Oba Shotobi added.
