Members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) earlier today took to the streets in Lagos in solidarity protest with the ongoing strike action of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
The massive protest witnessed protesters occupying major roads carrying placards with different inscriptions, ‘Stop making Universities Constituency Ptoject’, ‘Stop Looting! Tax The Rich To Subsidize The Poor’ and ‘Nigeria At 60 Years of Independence, More Hunger In the Land’ among many others.
At the protest were teachers from Ikorodu led by the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Ikorodu branch, Com. Oluwafemi Fakolade, Jpil.
Qaseem Aramide Naheem, one of the teachers at the protest in his post on official Facebook page of NUT Ikorodu, said:
“Today, Tuesday 26th of July, 2022. Nigeria Union of Teachers Ikorodu Branch was duly represented at the One Day Rally/Protest which was organized by the Nigeria Labor Congress”
“The protest was participated to solidarised with ASUU on the lingering strike”.
“We hope this would bring striking lecturers and our students back to school in no distance time”.
The nationwide protest staged by the NLC in solidarity with ASUU strike which started five months ago.
Some of the ASUU demands are: the release of revitalisation funds to Universities, renegotiation of 2009 FGN/ASUU agreement, release of earned allowances for university lecturers among others.
