Waves Begins 15th Anniversary Celebrations With Students’ Engagement

-HOMAT honours students, commends Publisher for educative programmes

The management of the Waves Media Limited on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, partnered the HOMAT Group of Schools in honouring and mentoring students of the school as part of the activities marking the 15th year anniversary of the media outfit.

Resource persons who spoke at the programme charged students to find purpose in life and pursue dreams with commitment and discipline to achieve their set goals.

At the event tagged, ‘Pep Talk Session’ with the HOMAT students with the theme, ‘Finding Purpose in Life’, which also coincided with the school’s annual Principal Distinguished Awards, five students were honoured by the school for distinction academic performances.

The awardees were honored for maintaining distinction from Junior School to Senior School 3, an award that was started 10 years ago by the school to promote excellence. The awardees were – Ojubanire Fawaz, Babajide Aliyah, Chiekeze Florence, Ogunlanla Latifah and Obanor Mercy.

Mr Lawrence Taiwo, the Principal, HOMAT Group of Schools, in his keynote address, said that the school is celebrating three programmes in one, while also commending the Publisher/Chief Executive Officer, Waves Media, Mr Azeez Lamina, for his impacts.

He also commended the awardees for their outstanding performances.

“Today, we are celebrating three programmes in one. One, we are rounding off our annual literary and debating event; celebrating with Waves, its 15 years anniversary and third, we are also celebrating our annual Principal Distinction Award for five students”, he said.

“The award started 10 years ago and for the awardees, it is acknowledgement of their doggedness and academic excellence for recording distinction all through and also, for combining that with good characters”.

Commending the Waves publisher for the impacts that his media organization has made in the last 15 years, Mr Lawrence said:

“Waves CEO is a very industrious, articulate and visionary young man. He has been in the forefront of organizing educative events and making himself available for youth developmental activities”.

The Founder/Chairman, HOMAT Group of Schools and President, Lagos State Private Schools Proprietors Association, Alhaji Olawale Amusa, also speaking said that he was proud of the Waves Media’s achievement.

Amusa who added that he was happy to have identified with the company’s charged students to emulate his entrepreneurship orientation and attitudes.

Mr Bayode Treasures Olawunmi, the leader of the iRead Afrika team that is holding Guinness World Record in the Longest Marathon Read Aloud (group category) in 2021, speaking on the theme, charged students that filled the large HOMAT School hall that they must start imagining what they intend to be in future.

“You cannot feature in the future you did not picture. You need to start having a picture of what you want to be from your secondary school. You need to start defining the future that you want and working towards specific goals”, the Guinness Book of World Record holder charged.

“You must know where you are going; your destination and picture your future at all times.

“Failure cannot overtake you if your determination to succeed is strong enough”.

Bayode, who in 2018 set the individual record in the Guinness World Record, described the awardees as true winners.

“Our awardees today are the true winners because they did not waver since their junior classes by maintaining their distinction records. Don’t forget that you all started together but today, they are being honoured”, he said.

He also charged other students to see the honour being given to their colleagues as a factor that would propel them to academic excellence.

The CEO, Waves Media, also speaking, congratulated the parents of the awardees for raising those he called ‘best of the bests’ and charged the honorees not to relent in their academic excellence.
“I congratulate the parents of the awardees who are the ‘best of the best students’. You should be proud for raising excellent students”, he said.

“To you students, this is just the beginning and you would still break more grounds; record more accomplishments and make more successes”.

The Waves publisher, who said that he started as an entrepreneur while studying Mass Communication in the Lagos State Polytechnic, added that Waves is organizing the Pep Talk to impact on the students.

“I decided to do this with you because I want to impact on you guys. We are here to rub minds with you and share our experiences with you.

“You need to start building the foundation of the future that you would want to live, today. You need to start preparing from today for your WAEC so that you will achieve academic excellence”, he further charged.

Gift items were presented to the five distinction students by the management of Waves Media and HOMAT Group of Schools.

Presentations were made at the event by the Head girl of the school, junior school students and the primary school pupils.

The media outfit which started as publisher of Waves magazine have over the years added television, radio and other lines to its brands.

Other activities lined up or the Waves 15th anniversary celebrations are Reach Out to the Needy, Visitations to Stakeholders, Special Waves Gist Zone Episode and Special Wavesplus Episode.
