-Scholarship awardees to get N200, 000 each throughout academic careers
The Scholarship initiative of the Ikorodu Division Peace Initiative Limited/GTE is targeting 12 distinction students who are indigenes or residents of Ikorodu Division with the sum of N200, 000 each every academic session as Scholarship awards, THE IMPACT authoritatively gathered.
While beneficiaries who are indigenes must show proof of their indigeneship as stated in the guidelines for the application, it was gathered that, those that are residents must provide their LASRRA registration card to show that they have been residing in any part of Ikorodu Division.
The award of IDPIL/GTE is strictly based on excellence academic performance with the body setting a benchmark of Cummulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.5 for Universities and Distinction for Polytechnics, Monotechnics and Colleges of Education.
According to Mr Taiwo Hassan Awolaru, Administrative Officer, DPIL/GTE, a total of N2, 400, 000 will be expended on the 12 Scholarship awardees.
“We are targeting just 12 students for the Scholarship award and there is no restriction as it is designed for both indigenes and none indigenes who are academically sound. They must be distinction students to qualify for the award”, he said.
Mr Awolaru also stated that aside the academic qualification, there are other strident conditions attached to application for the Scholarship.
“Those applying for this will have to send in their formal application, do aptitude test, physical interview among others”, he said.
“We are also going to do thorough background check on them and verify their credentials”.
While explaining to our reporter that the Bursary award is divided into two, Mr Awolaru said that the Bursary 1, which is also designed for both indigenes with average GCPA and residents, is strictly for the indigents.
For both, IDPIL/GTE is targeting 254 students.
“Bursary 1 is designed for both indigent indigenes and residents with average academic standards from 3.5 GCPA and it is a one – off award”, he said.
“Successful applicants will be awarded N100, 000 each and we are targeting 100 of them. Once they get it this year, they will not be entitled to it again so as to give others the opportunity to benefit.
“Bursary 2 is strictly for the indigenes. This is strictly a social intervention to assist them, but they must provide evidence of indigeneship and it doesn’t have to be paternal but could also be maternal”, he said.
“Like Bursary 1, this is also a one – off award for the beneficiaries and 154 students are being targeted. They are going to be giving N50, 000 each”, he added.
The IDPIL/GTE announced the Scholarship and Bursary programmes about a month ago with N20millon endowment fund.
