The rehabilitation and upgrading of the deplorable of Igbogbo/Baiyeku Road in Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Ikorodu Division area of Lagos State, Southwest, Nigeria, which has caused several protests from residents and users of the road, is billed to commence in July this year.
It is expected to be completed within 22 months.
The road has caused residents untold hardship while also bringing social and economic activities in many communities along the route to a halt.
Mr Babajide Sanwo – Olu, the Governor of Lagos State, during the commissioning of the ultra – modern Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA Secretariat in 2021, after passing through the deplorable road to commission the Prince Abiodun Ogunleye Housing Estate, had pledged that his administration would rehabilitate the road.
THE IMPACT sighted a big project board which was erected this morning at the junction of Odofin Street where the first phase of the remodeling project is expected to start.
We have reported in the past weeks that the Lagos State Government has awarded the project and would commence its reconstruction soon.
The remodeling project, which will be handled by the Lagos State Public Works Corporation (PWC), comes with full drainages on both sides of the road, with street lights.
The Phase 1 of the project will commence from the Odofin junction where it links the Ebute – Igbogbo road which is currently being constructed by the HiTech Construction Company, to Awolowo Way and the Igbogbo/Bayeku Road, and would stop at the Prince Abiodun Ogunleye Housing Estate along the Igbogbo/Bayeku Road.
As THE IMPACT had reported about two weeks ago, the remodeling of Odofin Road, will be a lane each with drainage and streetlights, but at the Yewa junction where Odofin Street connects the Awolowo road, it would be two lanes on the each side of the roads down to Bayeku.
It was also gathered that the remodeling would be flagged off with a stakeholders’ meeting.
Meanwhile, officials of the government have marked structures on Odofin street and along Bayeku road, that would be affected by the project.
