Construction work has resumed on the Paul Palmer Street, two years and six months after it was abandoned.
The road, which is a major link road that connects several streets within the Ife Oluwa Community Development Association (CDA) in Igbogbo area of Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Ikorodu Division, Lagos, Southwest, Nigeria, to Igbogbo Road, was abandoned by the contractor.
But work is not just resuming on the 330metre road project facilitated by the representative of the Ikorodu Federal Constituency and Chairman, House Committee on Defense, Rep. Babajimi Benson, it has also been extended to cover more metres.
The project has now included Lateef Shodeinde Street which links Paul Palmer to Igbe Road.
THE IMPACT reporter who visited the area on Monday, May 30,2022, as part of our follow – up measure, reported that, when completed, the road, which was the first road project facilitated by Rep. Benson, will not only connect Ife Oluwa community to Oba Molaja Road (Igbogbo/Ikorodu Road) but will also link the community to the Igbe road which was also rehabilitated by the federal lawmaker in 2021.
The contract for the rehabilitation of the Paul Palmer road, presently being handled by a new contractor, was first awarded to the Fountain Dauglade Limited by the Federal Ministry of Works & Housing, Headquarters, Mabushi, Abuja, in 2019.
It was expected to be completed within 12 weeks when awarded.
This road connects Lateef Sodeinde, Ganiu Alade, Kolapo Ogunyemi, Adabonyan and Community Streets among others.
Speaking with our reporter, Mr Tobi Awobajo, Chairman, Ife Oluwa Community Development Association (CDA), said that he was full of appreciation to Rep. Benson for fulfilling his promise that he would see to the completion of the road.
“Work actually resumed last week and since then, they have been working on the project and we are very grateful to Hon. Babajimi Benson for fulfilling his pledge”, the CDA Chairman said.
“We have written series of letters to ensure that the road project is not abandoned and the last time that we met with him (Rep. Benson) at his Constituency office, he promised us that work would start again soon, and now, he has fulfilled that.
“We pray and hope that nothing would stop the construction work again.
“We have agreed to write a letter to him to appreciate him for keeping his words and the entire community is very happy for the gesture.
“He is a man with a difference and I personally believe that he still have a long way to go and probably may be the next Governor of Lagos State from Ikorodu because he has the necessary goodwill and the ability”, Mr Awobajo said.
Rep. Benson has since facilitated numerous other roads across the six council areas in lkorodu Federal Constituency, some of which are now completed and commissioned, while others are nearing completion.
