A leading contender for the Ikorodu Constituency II seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr Hameed Olalekan Aroyewun has unveiled his agenda for the people if he is elected to represent them in the coming general elections in 2023.
Aroyewun, who was a former Commissioner nominee for Ikorodu Division, while presenting his electoral programmes tagged, Lekan Aroyewun Project (LeAP), said that these programmes will take the Ikorodu Constituency II; comprising of Igbogbo/Bayeku, Ijede and Imota Local Council Development Areas (LCDAS) in Ikorodu Division area of Lagos State Southwest, Nigeria, to a greater heights.
He unveiled his manifestoes at the kick – off of his campaign for his aspiration held at Obateru Castle, Egbin, Ijede LCDA, on Friday, April 1, 2022.
While stating that he would be actively engaging on the floor of the House to canvass for Bills and Motions that will bring about economic prosperity, social harmony and political development in the state, the aspirant also said that Education, Social Welfare, Youth Emancipation, Community Development and Food Security will form the focus of his legislative agenda.
Aroyewun also said that if elected, he would also ensure that the traditional institution is also given its place of pride and well catered for.
“The Lekan Aroyewun Project (LeAP), which has as its sole purpose the realization of the Lagos State House of Assembly (LAHA) ambition of our symbol, HAMMED OLALEKAN AROYEWUN (HOA), has developed manifestoes that will help in repositioning the constituency”, he said.
“Our core areas of focus will be Education, Social Welfare,Youth Emancipation and Food Security and Community Development”, Aroyewun revealed.
He said that the theme of his educational development will be, “Education Empowerment for Poverty Eradication in Ikorodu Constituency II”.
“Education is very key and it’s no longer about going to school to study. Nowadays, education is about being well informed and in achieving that, information is key. This is why we are going to focus very well on education”, Aroyewun said.
“We want to start from scratch with our young ones to detect areas of their interests from the start. Some of them can write very well while others cannot but they have the gift of speaking. These are things that we want to detect in them and develop them along their paths. They were given different gifts by God”, he explained.
“We are going to set up the Ikorodu Constituency II Education Trust Fund for Undergraduate level and below. We will also make provision for Postgraduate Scholarships.
“Our area of interest is also organizing an Annual Inter-School Education Competition for primary and secondary schools.
“We are also going to embark on Educational symposiums and exhibitions from time – to – time and also ensure that we have functional ICT centres to empower our youths”, he said.
The aspirant also stated that he will sponsor motions to upgrade Vocational Centres in Igbogbo, and establish new ones in Ijede and Imota, to give teeming youths vocational empowerment.
In the area of Social Welfare, Aroyewun said that he will use his representation to ensure that road networks improve in his constituency and also drives youths towards business innovations.
“I will ensure a proper network with agencies and parastatals of government for the construction, improvement, and maintenance of infrastructure.
“I will also ensure regular orientation of youths in Ikorodu Constituency II along identity lines and consistently increase their pride through innovative approach to governance.
“We shall also engage in mobilizing and driving youth focus towards entrepreneurship.
“It will also be our focus to develop marketable information technology and vocational skills in youths through partnership with local and foreign non-governmental organizations with similar focus.
Other areas that he listed are: “Exploring and developing other unconventional career areas such as Sports and Entertainment as a profitable career option for our teeming youths.
“Engaging and working in concert with women across all strata of the constituency to enhance their capacity and overall human capacity development.
“Incorporate LeAP Service Centre. This Company will provide personal care and service to elders and vulnerable persons in the constituency FOC”.
Aroyewun, who said that youth development will be one of the core of his focus, announced that he will focus on:
“Development and Implementation of Mentee Mentor Movement (MMM).
“Establish Worldwide Youth Unit in the Constituency Office(s) for connecting the youths.
“Establish I – Work foundation which seeks to make all youths have work to do.
“Termly Book Before Boys (Study Before Social) Orientation Campaigns for schoolgirls.
“Establish Bi-annual Leadership Training Sessions in the constituency tagged: Making 21st century leaders.
“Sponsor Bi-annual empowerment of youths in the informal sector, and
“Motion/Bill for the establishment of Youth Centers in all LGAs and LCDAs of the state.
Announcing his agenda for Community Development and Food Security, Aroyewun said that his LeAP initiative will focus on:
“Establishing IBI: Igbogbo/Imota/Ijede Beautification Initiative and an annual Ikorodu Constituency II sports meets.
“Facilitate of Rural and Agricultural extension services and ensure the maintenance of cultural sites e.g. Palaces”.
To ensure Food Security, the Lagos Assembly aspirant stated that he will focus on:
“Our Garri Project: bring back our garri. Cultivation, processing, and packaging using cottage systems.
“Facilitation of training and empowerment for constituents on poultry value chain.
“Work out Joint arrangements (with LCDA chairmen) on sustainable potable water provision.
“Annual Ideas production meetings (to be rotated between Igbogbo, Ijede, and Imota).
“Incorporate LeAP Service Centre. This Company will provide personal care and service to elders and vulnerable persons in the constituency free of charge”, he said.
