Ikorodu residents have called on the Council and State Government to investigate the fire incident that occurred on Sunday at the Elepe Secondary School to ascertain its cause.
According to them, embarking on an investigation to unravel the causes will also help in finding ways to prevent future occurrence of such.
The fire, which its cause is yet to be ascertained, gutted the solar panel of the school earlier in the day and was quickly abated due to interventions by stakeholders, residents and quick arrival of personnel of the Lagos State Fire Service.
Tayo Odesanya, a public commentator and public analyst, responding to the incident on THE IMPACT WhatsApp platform, commended the quick responses by stakeholders and charged the representative of the Ikorodu Constituency II, Hon. Nurudeen Solaja, to ensure that investigation is launched into the occurrence.
“Has the cause been ascertained?”, he asked
“Well done to the swift actors, including Hon. Solaja. I, however, want to urge that our representative investigates the remote and immediate causes of it. Kudos sir”, he charged.
Mr Ohi Obadan, another social media commentator and community developer who was said to be at the scene of the incident, also called for investigation into the causes of the fire incident.
“The School Authorities and by extension NUT, LSUBEB should at least investigate the remote and external causes and suggest how to mitigate or abate reoccurrence, to assist the safety, security and safeguard of schools where such facilities are sited”, he said.
Another resident called on schools and other establishments to focus more on prevention of fire outbreak.
“They (Elepe Secondary School) and other schools, offices, factories, etc, should focus more on prevention of fire outbreak. We are tired of all these fire outbreaks”.
Former Chairman, Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, Hon. Gbenga Basanya commenting said that investigation is necessary to guide users of solar panel on its usage.
“The fire incident affected the SOLAR PANEL BUILDING, technical findings should be done, as a guide for those using alternative energy” he said.
Meanwhile, Builder Sesan Daini, Chairman, Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, who also responded quickly to the ugly incident by contacting necessary state agencies and visited the school, said that he will be visiting the school again today with his team on a fact – finding mission.
“I have contacted relevant government agencies for collaboration and immediate attention”, he told our reporter in a chat.
“I can’t really explain the cause which I think will be technically responded to but I thank God it didn’t happen on a school day.
“We will equally be going tomorrow (today) for more fact finding mission. The outcome of the fact finding will determine future preventive action”, he said.
