-Students with 250, 300 JAMB scores to get laptops, money
The Chairman, Nigerian Majority Leaders Forum and Majority Leader, Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Sanai Bolanle Agunbiade has pledged to give students that score 300 and above, a laptop and cash prize as part of his incentives to motivate them in getting higher marks in the coming JAMB Examinations.
The fourth – term lawmaker also pledged to give a laptop each to those who score 250 and above.
Agunbiade, who has been representing the Ikorodu Constituency I since 2007, made the pledge while speaking at the distribution of over 300 free JAMB forms and CBT trainings for over 300 beneficiaries, held at the HOMAT Event Centre, on Monday, March 8, 2022.
This year’s edition of the free JAMB form distribution is the 8th edition since its commencement in eight years ago.
While congratulating the students for being part of this year’s beneficiaries, Hon. Agunbiade charged them to be determined and work harder to get high scores in the JAMB which he would guarantee them admission into higher institutions.
“I congratulate you for being here today and for being part of those that are receiving the JAMB forms”, he said.
“You must be determined to face all challenges. This examination is a challenge. Life itself is a challenge and you must be determined to face and overcome all challenges. You must be determined to succeed in life.
“If your examination is as difficult as anything, some will still pass while some will fail. Those who failed are those who doubt their own capacity to pass and those who pass are not most times the most brilliant but those who fought with the determination to pass”, Hon. Agunbiade added.
“It is the determination that makes you read all the time. When you are determined, you can achieve anything”, he further charged the students.
To motivate the students, the four – term lawmaker announced prizes for students that score 250 and above and 300 and above in the coming JAMB examinations.
“You can’t just wake up and decide that you want to score 300 or 400 marks”, he said.
“Today, I am making a pledge that anybody that scores 250 and above will get a laptop each while those that score 300 and above will get a laptop and an undisclosed sum of money”, the Lagos Majority Leader announced.
“There is a covenant between us. Go and write your examinations and score high marks and we shall celebrate you.
“Today, we congratulate you, go into the University and do good, don’t join a cult group because a dead man has no aspiration and cannot achieve anything again.
“For you to achieve, you must stay alive. Stay alive, stay focused, shun cultism and stay safe”, he charged them.
The representative of Ikorodu Constituency also said that the free JAMB forms is part of his efforts in touching lives of his constituents.
“What I am doing today is because I am in the House of Assembly because every month, I collect my salary and allowances and my concern is always about how to improve lives. You must be able to touch lives”, he said.
“We are doing this because we know that some parents want their children to go to school, but it’s possible that at the time that you want to do your JAMB, they may not be able to afford the money because of the economic situation.
“We started this seven years ago, but this year, we want to know more about those that we are giving out the forms to and that is why we are going to create a Whatsapp platform to monitor you and also to enable you avail us your results once they are out.
“This is how we can know how many of you scored above 200 and you should not feel ashamed about publishing your results. This will also help us in assisting you with your admission”.
The Lagos Majority Leader also charged beneficiaries of his free JAMB/CBT to emulate Alhaji Olawale Amusa, the Chief Executive Office, HOMAT Group of Schools, for his commitment and dedication in moving from a classroom teacher to a school owner and a top businessman.
Mr Akeem Bello, Principal, Oriwu Senior Model College, Ikorodu and the Chairman of the lawmaker’s educational programmes, urged the beneficiaries to see the lawmaker’s gesture as an opportunity they must take good advantage of.
“This is a rare opportunity which you must cherish. The population of students in Ikorodu cannot be less than a million and out of this, God has counted you worthy to be part of those that will be beneficiaries”, Mr Bello charged.
“I don’t want you to misuse this opportunity or take it for granted just because it is free. I want to remind you that you are at a point where you have a thin line between you and success; between you and your admission into the higher institution.
“I want you to prepare well for the examination and as you all know that those with best results are always rewarded.
“This is not just to give you the forms but to support you to score high scores and gain admission”.
The school administrator also announced other programmes that Hon. Agunbiade initiated and sponsored.
“Free JAMB forms is one of the numerous programmes that Hon. Agunbiade has been doing to better his constituents”, he said.
“He is the man behind the ‘Back to School’ programme. He is the initiator of the Best Brain Contest in honour of Solaja Alagago. He is the initiator and sole sponsor of the annual October 1st mini – marathon which I am sure many of you would have heard of because your school would have participated in it among others.
“He is a man with a principle of practical representation and has sponsored a lot of students in higher institutions and athletes”.
Alhaji Olawale Amusa, while appreciating Hon. Agunbiade’s contributions to the developments in Ikorodu, added that his educational programmes are part of investing in Ikorodu’s future.
“You are our future and we need to invest in you and that is what Hon. Agunbiade has been doing since the inception of this programme”.
Alhaji Amusa, who recalled how he and others used to engage in labour at construction sites to get money to purchase forms of this nature, also charged beneficiaries not to allow themselves to be influenced negatively by peer groups.
The school proprietor also commended the lawmaker for not just giving more students the opportunity to write JAMB examinations but also preparing them for the examination through the Computer Based Test (CBT) training.
At the distribution centre were representatives of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), retired teachers, community developers and parents who all commended the lawmaker for his quality and impactful representation and also prayed for the continuity of his representation.
