The Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Lagos State, Hon. Olanrewaju Sunmi Odesanya, has said that the new Electoral Act assented to by President Muhammadu Buhari will bring the much – needed reforms and improvement to the electoral process.
President Buhari, had a few days back, assented to the Electoral Act Amendment Bill, passed and sent to him to that effect by the National Assembly.
Sunmi, who said that the country’s electoral process has declined since the inception of this Republic, gave the commendation in a statement he personally signed and released today.
“Strong political institutions are the bedrock upon which any meaningful system of government is built”, Sunmi said.
“That Nigerians’ trust in our electoral process has steadily declined since the advent of democracy in our current republic, and which recent elections have done little to restore this priceless confidence, cannot be overemphasised.
“It is upon this my boundless joy is premised, that President Buhari finally assented to the Electoral Act with new laws to reform and improve our electoral process, and guarantee truly democratic outcomes reflective of the wishes of the electorate”, he said while commending the President.
The APC scribe, who was a former State lawmaker, also commended the National Assembly for the new Act.
“While I commend Mr. President, I wish to extend my commendation to the ninth assembly for their efforts on this historical development. Specifically, however, I commend the civil society organisations for their constructive agitations and consistently keeping the issue on the front burner, culminating in this eventual success”, he said.
