The Lawmaker representing the Ikorodu Constituency II, Hon. Nurudeen Saka Solaja, has commissioned 12 Borehole projects across the Constituency, while also assuring constituents that more projects are coming soon.
The water projects are sited in different areas of the three councils that made up of lkorodu Constituency II – Igbogbo/Bayeku, Ijede and Imota Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).
The commissioning, which was held on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, was graced by party leaders and Council Chairmen among whom were Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun, a chieftain of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), Sen. Adeseye Ogunlewe, former Minister of Works, Asipa Kaoli Olusanya, chieftain of the All Progressives CCongress (APC), Builder Olusesan Daini, Chairman, Igbogbo /Bayeku LCDA, Hon. Motunrayo Gbadebo-Alogba, Chairman, Ijede LCDA and Prince Wasiu Agoro, Chairman, Imota LCDA and others.
Solaja, who is the Chairman, House Committee on Public Account Committee (PAC), led other chieftains of APC and others in embarking on marathon commissioning of the boreholes, starting with the one sited in front of the Chief Imam of Igbogbo’s house along the Obafemi Awolowo Road, amidst excitement.
Thereafter, the long convoy moved to Ilado Odumade, Baiyeku, Ibeshe and Igbe Laara in Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA and Ilupeju Estate, Igbe Ogunro, Ebute Olowo and Igbopa London in Ijede LCDA respectively.
The commissioning train later moved to Imota LCDA to commission boreholes at Ajegunle Street, Aje Itun-Opopo and Oke Agbo Community.
Hon. Solaja, addressing journalists during the commissioning, said that the water projects were designed to fulfill part of his campaign promises to rural areas in dire need of clean water.
“It’s in a bid to ensure that potable water is available to my constituents, that’s why I am commissioning additional 12 boreholes across my Constituency in addition to the existing ones, most of which are still functioning,”, Hon. Solaja revealed.
The lawmaker emphasised that the value of water is much more than its price and explained further that ending water challenges in all the communities in Ikorodu Constituency II is a core focus of his programme.
Speaking further, the Lawmaker revealed that he had constructed and delivered more than 24 borehole projects across Ikorodu Constituency II, in the last 5 years.
“This is not the first time that I will be providing borehole projects in my Constituency. It has become one of my traditional projects initiated to bring social amenities closer to the grassroots”.
NS, as fondly called by his admirers, further enjoined every resident of his Constituency where the boreholes are sited, to take ownership of the boreholes, while urging them to use the facilities with care in order to last longer.
He also urged the government at all levels to invest more in the provision of potable water, stressing that the provision of such social amenities should not be left in the hands of private individuals.
Hon. Solaja, however, promised to facilitate more State projects to Ikorodu Constituency II, and that more roads would be rehabilitated soon.
Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun, in his remarks, commended the gesture of Hon. Solaja, stating that he is loyal, trustworthy and dependable.
Also, Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe, in the same vein, applauded the lawmaker, stating that if he could be allowed to represent again, he’ll definitely do more.
In his own remarks, Asipa Kaoli Olusanya, also thanked Hon Solaja for the water projects.
He said it is good for the representative to be nearer to the people, urging the Community to take ownership of the boreholes for proper maintenance.
High Chief Jamiu Adesina, the Olisa of Ibeshe, also thanked the lawmaker on behalf of the Olubeshe of Ibeshe land, while assuring that the community is solidly behind him.
