Members of the Class set of 1991/92 of Shams – el – Dee Grammar School (SGS), on Monday (yesterday), donated communication gadgets to their alma mater as part of the activities lined – up for the commemoration of their 30 years anniversary of passing out from their old school.
The former students who were welcomed to the school by the Principal, Mrs Akinpelu Folashade, donated communication gadgets and ceiling fans to the school.
The team was led by the national President of the school alumni association, Engr. Idowu Hameed and Chairman, 1991/92 Class set, Hon. Yinka Majekodunmi.
During the visit, the former students had ample time to interact with the current students of the school, sharing their experiences with them.They also charged the students to be good students and ambassadors of the school.
In his address, Engr. Hameed said that members of the Class set, which he also belongs to, were back in the school to fulfill their pledge in commemoration of their anniversary.
“Sometimes ago, we came to inquire about the pressing needs of the school from the principal and through that, we got a list of items. We are here today with some of the items in commemoration of our 30 years anniversary. We assure the school that more is coming”, he said.
The Ikorodu Branch Chairman of the Alumni association, Hon. Yinka Majekodunmi, while addressing the students on the assembly ground, encouraged them to ensure they stay focused towards attaining success.
“Success is for those who are energetic enough to work for it and you should not cut corners to attain success. The secret to success is staying focused on your studies. Your destinies are in your hands”, he charged the students.
“We members of the 1991/92 set are glad to be in your midst today and in commemoration of our 30th anniversary, we have come to present some gifts to the school”.
Also speaking at the event, a member of the set, Alhaja Semiat Yusuf, prayed for the students and urged them to be focused on their studies.
Speaking with the IMPACT, the School Principal, Mrs Akinpelu Folashade said that they are happy that former students of the school have come to identify with them.
“We are indeed glad that the Alumni Association has come to identify with their alma mater. The gifts received are highly appreciated and will ensure that necessary bodies are aware of their gesture. They’ve promised to add more presents to celebrate their 30th anniversary and we are thankful for the gesture that they have shown”, Mrs Akinpelu said.
Other activities of the 30th anniversary of the class set include Visitation and appreciation of some old teachers on Tuesday 14th, December 2021; Royal Visitation to the Ayangburen palace for Royal blessings and prayers and Courtesy Visit to Sheik Yahya Oshoala (Former Principal, Sham-el-deen Grammar School) on Wednesday 15th December, 2021.
The Grand finale is scheduled to hold on Saturday 18th December, 2021, and will feature Public lecture, Award of excellence, Appeal fund for the construction of a block of 10 classrooms (Old students Building) and Empowerment and Gala Night.
