The Ikorodu branch of the Alumni Association, Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH), has inaugurated a new Executive Council at a well – attended ceremony held at the School of Agriculture auditorium, lkorodu Permanent site, on Thursday, December 9, 2021.
At the ceremony which also doubled as the End of the Year Party of the alumni body, the National President of the body, Dr ‘Yinka Adewusi and the popular former Rector of the institution, Mr Ayodeji Babatunde Iginla, were honored with Awards of Excellence in Service and Lifetime Achievement respectively.
Oath of offices and allegiance were administered on the new branch Chairman, Mr Onaade Shamsudeen Adebayo and members of the executives who are expected to serve for two years .
Others are Tpl. Kosoko Roseline Abidemi (Vice Chairman), Hassan Temidayo (Secretary), Ibraheem Abibat (Asst. Secretary), Ashamu Idris (Treasurer), Tifase Olufunmilayo (PRO), Olorunfemi Adewunmi Alfred (Welfare), and Alhaja Jamal Taiwo (ex-officio).
The National President of the alumni association, Dr Adewusi and other national excos decorated the newly inaugurated members of the council.
At the inauguration were Rt. Hon. Jokotola Pelumi, former Speaker, Lagos State House Assembly who was the special guest at the occasion, Nurudeen Olaleye, the Rector of the polytechnic, Mr Olumide Metilelu, the Deputy Rector (Administration), Dr Kolawole Godonu, Deputy Rector (Administration), Princess Tope Kosoko, former Registrar of the institution and the His Royal Highness, Prince Abiola Kosoko, Oloja – elect and former student of the Polytechnic , Mr Lanre Kuye, Director, Information & Public Relations, LASPOTECH amongst others.
Dr. Adewusi, in his remark, appreciated the presence of every guest, student and member present at the occasion.
He expressed that the National Body of the Alumni would support any course of the Ikorodu branch and assist with every project they seek to carry out.
“The national body will work with the Ikorodu branch in the area of award of prizes to the Best Graduating Students in each School of the Polytechnic”, he assured.
“We are going to partner with you in other projects that you are set out to implement after the three months that you needed to stabilize and ready for work fully.
Speaking, Rt. Hon. Jokotola Pelumi expressed his appreciation to the Governing Council of the institution for always raising standards and making the admission process easy for students.
He said that the School has invested lots of value and exposure in the old and current students and that it is a thing of joy that is worthy of commendation.
Pelumi charged members of the institution’s alumni association which he is a proud member, to continue to be good ambassadors and pride of the institution.
He charged guests and students at the ceremony to be conscious of three things: background, education and exposure, adding that they would never disappoint one in life.
He also stated the importance of the alumni association and charged privileged members to assist students that are less privileged in the institution and in their communities in achieving their aims.
Dr Nurudeen Olaleye, the Rector of LASPOTECH, commended the Ikorodu branch of the alumni association for showing excellence in their acts and actions.
He charged members to come back to the institution and assist in its development after it had impacted on them.
The Rector was represented by Dr Kolawole Godonu, the Deputy Rector (Administration).
“The alumni association is showing excellence in all they do and you must continue to make an impact in your areas”, he said.
“There is a need for your members to come back to LASPOTECH to make an impact. This is the institution that trained and imparted the skills in you.
“We need you to institute an alumni scholarship for our students, build a large auditorium with about 1500 capacity and make changes in the system”, he charged.
“LAPSOTECH has invested so much in you and it is now your turn to give back”.
He also charged the newly inaugurated excos of Ikorodu branch of the Alumni association to ensure that other members of the association that are yet to identify with the association, are brought into the fold to play active roles and contribute their own quota.
He also called on former members of the institution to ensure that they come around for more programmes and visits.
“You are making history today, but we want to see you coming around more often to this great institution to inspire our students and make impacts”, the Rector said.
Mr Iginla, in his own remarks, said that the association has kept the flag of the institution flying and charged them to continue making giant strides.
The Oloja of Lagos elect, Prince Abiola Kosoko who was the royal father of the occasion, pledged his continuous support for his former institution and the alumni association.
Prince Kosoko, who was represented by the former Registrar of the institution, Princess Tope Kosoko, also congratulated the association for the successful outing and election.
He wished the new excos a successful tenure.
In his acceptance speech, the new branch Chairman, Mr Onaade Adebayo said that he would not take the trust reposed in him by members for granted and pledged to take the association to a greater height.
“I will not take this for granted. This is an honour to serve my people and institution that has produced many scholars, captains of industry and many eminent personalities”, he said.
“We will work towards taking the alumni association and our dear institution to a greater height”.
He appealed for members’ support and cooperation to enable the new exco to achieve its programmes.
“I appeal to members to contribute their own quota to the association so that we can implement and achieve our programmes and aims and objectives of the formation of the alumni association”, he pleaded.
It wasn’t all about speeches and formal activities at the inauguration as the institution’s Kegites Club, Cultural troupes and students who are into afro hip hop music, entertained the guests.
