10 students in various higher institutions across the country were at the weekend presented with scholarships by the Longe family of lkorodu and AGL Delightsome Scholarship Funds to support their education.
The scholarship awards were presented by the sponsors through the reformed Ikorodu – Oga Development Association (IKODASS) Scholarship Scheme at the grand finale of the 30th Ikorodu – Oga Day Celebration.
Each of the beneficiaries received a cheque of N100, 000 for the award.
While children of late Jimoh Owode Longe instituted the Scholarship Funds in honour of their late father for students studying Medicine, Information Technology, Accounting, Business Administration, Law or Banking and Finance, the AGL Delightsome Annual Scholarship Funds was also signed up by Mr Abiodun Longe for undergraduate students in Science, Technical and Accounting departments.
Mr Erogbogbo, the IKODASS Chairman, presenting the scholarship scheme to the royal fathers and guests, said that his administration is keen in ensuring that students with ability are supported to be educated.
He charged other privileged individuals to contribute to the scheme to assist students in Ikorodu.
“Ideas rule the world. Ideas come from the mind. The mind is enlightened by education. So, clearly education is paramount. Mindful of the importance of education to any society, therefore, this administration revamped and rebranded IKODASS Education Fund into IKODASS Scholarship Scheme with specific goals and modus operandi”, IKODASS Chairman said.
“The idea is to ensure every student with ability in lkorodu gets the education he or she desires irrespective of his or her financial standing.
“May it not be in our day and time that an educationally gifted young young boy or girl will miss out on education because of financial constraint. Try as it can, IKODASS cannot shoulder this burden alone, we need you to pitch in and help improve our society by endowing specific scholarships”, he solicited.
He said that IKODASS is targeting 100 families to contribute to the scholarship scheme in order to get more deserving students to benefit.
The IKODASS Chairman said that applicants for the scholarship must have a CGP of not less than 3.50.
“We have created different funding bouquets under the IKODASS Scholarship Scheme that allows you to honour and immortalise yourself, dear ones or family”, Erogbogbo said.
“The target is to get 100 families to sign up to this scheme. The scholarship is only open to students in Federal or State Universities in Nigeria. To qualify, the applicant must have a CGP of not less than 3.50 and a clean behavioural record.
“Scholarship commences from second year with a grant of not less than N100, 000 per session for the duration of the student’s course provided he or she maintains 3.50 CGP average. Under this scheme, the total cost to you or your family is four hundred thousands naira for a four year course.
“Each donor reserves the right to name the scholarship and specify a course field for it to cover if so inclined”.
Erogbogbo also announced that the Longe family and Chief Yemi Lawal are also providing GCE and JAMB forms for students in Ikorodu.
He added that one Babalola Olajuwon adopted by the IKODASS during his predecessor’s administration and sponsored, is now in his final year.
“They (Jimoh Longe family) have equally taken up payment of WAEC fees for 20 students and JAMB fees for 20 students also”, he said.
“In the same vein, AGL Delightsome Annual Scholarship Funds was also signed up by Mr Abiodun Longe for undergraduate students in Science, Technical and Accounting departments. In addition, Chief Yemi Lawal, the Bobamulero of Ikorodu Kingdom, pledged to sponsor fifty (50) G.C.E forms for secondary school students.
“Consequently, we are glad to announce that Babalola Fuad Olajuwon, an undergraduate student of Ekiti State University who was adopted and sponsored by IKODASS, is now a final year student of Science Laboratory Technology (Bio Technology).
His final year cheque was presented to him at the ceremony.
His Royal Majesty, Oba Kabir Shotobi, the Ayangbure of Ikorodu, thanked donors for the scholarship for assisting in developing Ikorodu youths educationally.
The royal father said that assisting the youths and developing them educationally is by extension assisting the community to develop.
