Windsford College in Igbogbo have proved that it is a strong force to be reckoned with when it comes to Scrabble game in Igbogbo part of Ikorodu Division, Lagos State, Southwest, Nigeria, as two of its students emerged winner and first runner – up in the just concluded Dr Rotimi Bakare Secondary School Scrabble Tournament.
Held on Friday at the Asiwaju Basorun Hall, Oreyo Grammar School, Igbogbo, the tournament was part of the sporting events organized to commemorate the 33rd Igbogbo Day Celebrations.
Master Onibudo AbdulRaman of windsford College emerged the 2021 winner, beating his school mate, Martins Olaniyan to the second position, while Abraham Ayomiposi of Fathom Schools came third.
Obanor Mercy, a student of HOMAT College, Ibrahim Faidat of Oreyo Senior Grammar School, and Odesanya Toyosi from the South Gate College, Igbogbo, came 4th, 5th and 6th places respectively.
In the 7th and 8th positions are Dada Paul (Andus d Great Schoo) and Olawunmi Luke (Reri Senior Secondary School, Oreta).
The Coordinator of the tournament who is also a member of the Lagos State Scrabble and Monopoly Association, Mr Ademola Ogunlewe, said that both public and private secondary schools in Igbogbo entered their students for different games which Scrabble is part of.
“The game is getting necessary attention in Igbogbo, especially among secondary schools. This is the second time that we are hosting Scrabble competitions here and the interests and performances have been very impressive,” he said.
He added that the game is work in progress in Igbogbo and the Lagos State Scrabble and Monopoly Association is planning to create hubs and this place will be one of the hubs, where students can come to at weekend to engage in scrabble training.
“We are catching up in the game and it is growing here in Igbogbo” he added.
