The National President of the Buccaneer Organization, BAN – BC72, Mr Abayomi Adejonwo and one of its former Presidents, Mr Luqman Olabisi, has refuted allegation that the group is a secret cult.
National Chieftains of the organization and others were guests at the ‘Agbada’ Festival and Award ceremony organised by Tortuga Frigate and held at the Avic Event Center , Akasoleri, Ikorodu, on Saturday, October 30, 2021.
Mr Adejonwon described the organization as a family of ‘Omoluwabis’ who engage in positive engagements within the society and not a secret cult.
“We are not a secret organization but family members and those of you who are family members know the roles that we play in the society”, Adejonwon said.
“Anyone who is not an ‘Omoluabi’ cannot be a Buccaneer. We believed in loyalty, justice and doing right as an individual and an organisation. That’s exactly what makes us ‘Omoluabis’.
Also speaking in the same manner, Mr Luqman Olabisi, former National Executive President, also reiterated that Buccaneers are not cult members.
“If Osugbo, Awopa, Ogboni Confraternity and other groups that I belong to are allowed to practice their belief, why should Buccaneers whose activities are more open be called a secret society?”, he asked rhetorically.
“It is only that you cannot participate in our activities if you are not our member and that does not make us a secret society”, he emphasized.
Adejonwon, who said that he is a chieftain of many Osugbo, Awopa and other traditional groups, charged members of the group to be proud of the organisation.
“Members of the Tortuga should keep their heads up and be proud of their association with Buccaneer”.
Comrade Pelumi Olalekan, Captain of the Tortuga Frigate and the host, also stated that members of his group are not hooligans or cultists but responsible individuals.
“I keep saying that the difference is clear, when people see us they can easily differentiate us. We’re not cultists, we’re not touts nor hooligans. We’re reliable and responsible citizens”, he said.
“We are not cultists but a group of people that have been following and executing the aims and objectives of Ban F”, he added.
