In preparation for its full operation, about 200 selected members of the Joint Task Force (JTF), Ikorodu Division, on Monday, October 25, 2021, commenced training at the Police College, Ikeja.
THE IMPACT gathered that the training would last for three weeks and would cover all aspects of policing that would make the participants effective when they started operations in ridding Ikorodu of cultism, Ajagugbale, robbery and other criminal activities which is negatively impacting on the division.
The JTF is the baby of the new divisional security architecture, Ikorodu Division Security Trust Limited/GTE (IDSTL/GTE) which is a registered body and being chaired by the Ikorodu billionaire and senior lawyer, High Chief Adewunmi Ogunsanya, SAN. It is the initiative of the Ayangbure of Ikorodu and supported by all the traditional rulers and council chairmen in Ikorodu Division area of Lagos, Southwest, Nigeria.
We also gathered that about seven local vigilance security outfits – Onyabo, Agbekoya, OPC, VGN and others across the division have been infused into the new security system to assist the conventional security bodies.
The arrangement, THE IMPACT also gathered, has the backing of the Inspector General of Police and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
The security body, according to report, is being led by Akogun Lanre Olabinjo, the Deputy Commander of the Onyabo.
It was also gathered that the team would start operation fully immediately after their three weeks training.
THE IMPACT further gathered that IDSTL/GTE, with the assistance of High Chief Adewunmi Ogunsanya, has procured about 20 patrol vehicles and 50 motorbikes for its operations while it is also expected to have headquarters and zonal offices in the six council areas in lkorodu division.
Also provided for effective commencement of JTF operations are uniforms, customized t – shirts, boots and other necessary gadgets.
Earlier, THE IMPACT gathered that the IDSTL/GTE has done necessary administrative, physical and medical checks on the members of the JTF to ascertain their capacity before short-listing them.
While the IDSTL/GTE is preparing for the full commencement of operations by its JTF, it has also been in liaison with security outfits in Ikorodu to create an harmonious and collaborative relationship with them.
Aside from the security apparatus, the body is also in constant communication with civil organizations while it also partnered with the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ikorodu Division Youth Initiative (IDYI) and others to organize the first security summit in the division few weeks ago.
