-Team B win 2021 tournament
The Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, His Royal Majesty, Oba (Barr.) Abdul-Semiu Orimadegun Kasali, Emugoriade I, on the Independence Day led chiefs, eminent personalities and residents of Igbogbo Kingdom to grace the final of the 2021 Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) football competition at the Igbogbo Stadium.
The football tournament, which was the second edition to be organized in commemoration of the annual World Teachers Day by the NUT Ikorodu, was named, ‘HRM Oba Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali Teachers Football Competition’, in honour of the royal father.
Also at the final were Mrs Anike Adekanye, Tutor – General/Permanent Secretary, Education District II, Prince Waheed Adeniran Kasai, Permanent Secretary, Office of Special Adviser on Education), Mr Amusa, Education Secretary, Local Government Education Authority (LGEA), Olori Sekinot Kasali and Olori Kafayat Kasali among others.
There were also former NUT Chairmen, Principals, Head Teachers among who were Asiwaju Lateef Oduguwa and Mrs Bisi Mustapha.
At the final match, Team B (red Jersey) beat Team A (lemon jersey) 5 goals to 4 to lift the golden cup donated by the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo.
The match ended 1 – 1 at the regulation time and proceeded to a penalty shootouts where Team B converted 4 kicks while Team A scored three.
Oba Kasali, speaking with journalists at the match, commended the Tutor – General/ Permanent Secretary, Mrs Adekanye, for the good job she is doing and also congratulated teachers on the occasion of the World Teachers Day celebration.
He also charged them to continue to give their students good education and assured that there would be good rewards for them.
“We thank the governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo – Olu, for giving us the Education District II Tutor – General/Permanent Secretary in person of Mrs Anike Adekanye. She has been a wonderful mother to all our children”, the royal father said.
“I also thank our teachers in Ikorodu Division for coming together to fraternize and engage in a football match in commemoration of the annual World Teachers Day.
“We, as a people, also thank them for their efforts in the lives of our children in trying to make them good leaders. We pray that they will continue to reap the fruits of their labours”.
He advised the youths to shun violence and other social vices and be committed to their education so as to be leaders in future.
The royal father also advised teachers not to rest on their oars but continue to put more efforts in developing their students and the community.
The Tutor – General/Permanent Secretary, Mrs Anike Adekanye, in her speech, thanked the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo for his support for teachers and development of education.
”Oba Adeboruwa is a King that knows the worth of education. I thank him greatly for the support that he has been rendering for the development of education”, TG/PS Adekanye said.
She revealed that the intervention of the royal father made the establishment of the Agunfoye Senior Girls Model College possible.
“The Adeboruwa made the establishment of the Agunfoye Senior Girls Model College possible. It was his influence that made the governor approved the project here which was initially going somewhere else.
“The royal father did not just assisted us with land but also necessary papers pertaining to the land and I had to meet with the governor who gave instant approval”, she revealed.
She also commended the NUT Chairman in Ikorodu, Comrade OIuwafemi Fakolade, and his predecessor, Asiwaju Lateef Oduguwa, for their discipline and vision.
“I salute the NUT Chairman in Ikorodu for his courage, vision and for being responsible and responsive. He’s like his predecessor. They are disciplined and committed. That’s why they have been able to work with me”.
Mrs Adekanye also congratulated teachers for this year’s World Teachers Day celebration and charged them to relax and enjoy.
“Today, celebrate yourself and feel relaxed. I wish you all a happy Teachers Day.
“In District II, I have seen peace, love and unflinching support from teachers. Thank you for adhering to the tenets of the teaching profession”, she said.
Comrade Oluwafemi Fakolade, the NUT Chairman also commended the Adeboruwa for his support for teachers.
“Kabiyesi, I am always proud of you and thank you for all your fatherly support for teachers”, he said.
“I have been sent to also tell you, Sir, by our teachers that they want you to wear our celebration attire to the World Teachers Day celebration on Tuesday”.
He said that all the players on the field were teachers from various schools.
