The 2021 edition of the football tournament being organized by the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Ikorodu branch, to commemorate the annual World Teachers’ Day, has been named in honour of His Royal Majesty, Oba Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali, the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo.
The final match of the football tournament, which is now being referred to as, ‘HRM Oba Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali Teachers Football Competition, would be played at the Igbogbo Stadium currently under construction by the state government into a mini – stadium, would come up at 3pm on Friday, October 1, 2021.
It is the second edition of the tournament to be organized by the NUT.
According to the letter that communicated the decision to the royal father and which was signed by the Chairman Planning Committee , Comrade Esan Adefunke and the NUT branch Chairman, Comrade Fakolade Oluwafemi Oluwaseun , JP, the NUT Chairman, the decision was taken at the union’s extra – ordinary session.
“The decision was arrived at the extra – ordinary session of the standing committee of the NUT to name the second edition of the World Teachers’ Day Football Competition after His Royal Majesty, Oba Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali”, the letter stated.
“This is in recognition of your everyday father role. The unquantified contributions to our great union and education sector in general.
“It is hope that the gesture will be accepted by your Royal Majesty”, he added.
Speaking with the Personal Assistant to the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, Alhaji Akeem Odusanya, he said that the Adeboruwa, his chiefs and entire people of Igbogbo have accepted the gesture and the honour by the teachers in the division to accord the revered traditional ruler the honour.
He pledged that Oba Kasali, who was a former State Counsel and lawyer, would continue to advance education and support teachers.
Alhaji Odusanya enjoined residents of Igbogbo and other football lovers across the Ikorodu Division to troop out on the match day to watch teachers engage in football hostility.
