The President of the one of the oldest social clubs in Ikorodu which is still very relevant in the scheme of things, Otunba David Ekiyoyo, has revealed that the club, formed in 1975, is a viable forum for family circle and fun for members.
Prestige Social Circle was officially inaugurated in 1978 with Engr. Shonubi as its foundation President.
Otunba Ekiyoyo also revealed during the visit of Mr Rotimi Erogbogbo, Chairman, Ikorodu –Oga Development Association (IKODASS), to the members of the club on Sunday, that members of the club don’t hold election as members served in different capacities till they are tired.
“This is one of the oldest and elderly clubs in Ikorodu. We are in the same category with the likes of The Exclusives Club and Oriwu Club.
“We were one of the earliest clubs invited when the IKODASS started and we have been with the body since that time.
“We don’t hold elections in the Prestige Social Circle. Once you emerge in the capacity as President or any officer, you are allowed to serve until you are tired. We are all closely connected and each of us is a Londoner”, Chief Ekiyoyo said.
“In actual fact, our wives are always with us and at times, have a say in the admittance of new members. That is how close our members are.
“The Club is more of fun and a family circle which affords us a platform to interact and socialize”, Otunba Ekiyoyo emphasized.
Many of the club’s members had served and are still serving Ikorodu in many capacities.
Mindful of its continuous existence after many of its members that were over 70 years passed on, the club is now bringing younger elements into it fold with a mandate to allow them serve in important capacities.
At the visit were Alhaji W.O. Akinrinle, the Auditor of the club, Engr. Luqman Erogbogbo, Treasurer, Alhaji Sulaimon Ogidi, the Ajiroba of Ikorodu, member, Mr Dapo Shonubi, member and young Mr Kolawole Shonubi, Secretary.
