Participants in the ongoing Eko Digital programme at the Rotary Centre, Igbogbo, have commended the Lagos State Government through the Office of the Special Adviser on Education (OSAE), for the Initiative.
The programme kicked off on Wednesday, September 15, 2021, while participants were availed with the choices of receiving training online or visiting any of the nine centres across the state.
Courses available for interested candidates are Entrepreneurship, Cyber Security Essentials, IoT(Internet of Things), Linux Essentials, CCNA v7 (Networking), Python, Cloud Computing and Virtualization.
When our reporter visited the Ikorodu Division’s centre in Igbogbo on Wednesday (yesterday), participants were seen working on their computer systems at the centres while new ones brought in their laptops which were connected to the internet provided by the government for the training.
Some of the participants that spoke with THE IMPACT commended the initiative.
Abureri Abieyua, a resident of Oreyo community in Igbogbo in Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area, who puts in for the Python program, said that she chose the program because of its importance.
“Python is a high level programming language that is in vogue now”.
The 100 level Pharmacy student of University of Lagos (UNILAG) also said that the initiative would aid Nigerian youths in developing high skills in lnformation Technology (IT).
“Eko Digital is a programme that will take Nigerian youths to the high level of technology and something that will be very useful to us outside our course of study in the University”, she said.
Moses Idore, another resident of Oreyo community, who has also puts in for the Python program, while explaining his reasons for choosing to learn the program, said:
“According to my instructor, Python is one of the simplest and easiest programming languages to learn without having any prior experience in programming”, he said.
“Besides, it pertains to the course that l am interested in studying because I want to study Computer Science”.
On Eko Digital, Moses said:
“It’s nice and a good development. It allows us to be engaged and prevent us from wasting our time playing around. It’s a very useful programme”.
The instructor for the Eko Digital at the centre, Eniyiku Serah Opeyemi, said that the turnout has been encouraging while also commending the level of interest of participants in the programme.
“The turnout so far has been great and amazing. It’s really a great programme to help the youths learn something useful that would be of great help to them. We have been having an impressive turnout everyday”, she said.
“So far, their level of interest has been great. They have shown the desire to learn.
“The programme will really impact them. When we started, they were actually feeling like is this what the programme is all about but as we progresses, they are now getting used to it and those that initially did not have interest have started showing interest”, she said.
