Organisers of the forthcoming and first – ever Ikorodu Security Summit are aiming at making the gathering of stakeholders in the division address the root causes of insecurity as a way of totally tackling the menace which has been threatening social and economic lives residents.
The focus of the summit, according to the organisers, would be more on how the community can collectively deal with the deadly issue of cultism that has been prominent in Ikorodu.
Mr Lukman Oladimeji Jaiyeola, a legal practitioner and the Chairman of the Media & Publicity Sub – Committee of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) , Ikorodu Anti – Cultism Committee, revealed this when he appeared on THE IMPACT WhatsApp platform as a guest to discuss the Ikorodu Security Summit.
The summit, which would hold at the Ikorodu Town Hall, on Thursday, September 23, 2021, and themed, ‘Eradicating The Menace Of Cultism And Other Social Vices: Causes, Effects And Solutions’, is being organized by the lkorodu NBA, in conjunction with the In conjunction with Ikorodu Division Youth Initiative (IDYI) and National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN).
“Security issue is a recurring issue taking different dimensions on a daily basis, you block a hole today, you have another tomorrow. Our target is to address the root causes of insecurity in Ikorodu, particularly, Cultism which is on top of our agenda”, he said.
“At the branch level, NBA Ikorodu branch has gotten a standing committee on the issue, tagged, “The Anti-Cultism Committee”.
Aside from the cultism issue, the lawyer said that other resource persons have also been invited to discuss the issue of insecurity in general.
“The two keynote speakers and eight other discussants were carefully selected from the legal profession, medical, Community leaders and formal & informal security providers to discuss the issue of insecurity in general and menace of cultism and other social vices in particularly, there causes and effects with the sole aim of providing practicable and possible solutions.
“Over four legal luminaries, who are constitutional law and criminal law experts, would be present to dissect the legal perspectives and implications of insecurity, while a Physician and Mental Health Consultant would also be discussing the issue from the medical perspective.
“More so, the Police would also be on ground to discuss the perspective of a formal security provider, the local vigilante group would be doing justice to the theme from the angle of the informal security provider(s), while the community leader and youth representative would discussing from the perspectives of community inhabitants and teeming youths respectively”, he said.
He assured that the organizers are making neccesary efforts in ensuring that the resolutions from the summit are implemented and are made to address the insecurity issues in the Division.
“After the Summit, the committee and other key players and stakeholders on security issues would ensure the implementation of all resolutions as contained in the communiqué to the best of what it can achieve”, Barr Jaiyeola said.
“We’re taking proactive steps to ensure that the communique see the light of the day while the Ikorodu Security Trust Limited is also doing all within its capacity to ensure that the resolutions of the summit are achieved seamlessly”.
While further stating that the Ikorodu Division Security Trust Fund is a key player in the summit, Barr. Jaiyeola commended its chairman, High Chief Adewunmi Ogunsanya, SAN, the Odofin of lkorodu Kingdom, for his the support towards a successful summit.
“Ikorodu Security Trust Limited is a key player and partner in the Security Summit”, he said.
“At first, when the proposal for hosting a security summit was brought to the notice of the Trust Company, it gave its nod and a warm welcome, much importantly, because the youths, who are believed to be stakeholders in issues of insecurity, are very much involved and well represented”, he recalled.
“Secondly, the Chairman of the Trust Company, High Chief Adewunmi Ogunsanya, SAN, is the Chairman and Lead Discussant of the Security Summit.
“Lastly, the Chairman of Trust Company, High Chief Ogunsanya, on behalf of himself and the Trust Company, has given the biggest sponsorship support so far received for the Summit”, he said.
He said that all members of the public are invited to the summit, while provisions have been made for 400 physical participants, while also adding that other prospective attendees can join the online/virtual session via zoom platform.
