The Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, His Royal Majesty, Oba (Barr.) Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali, and his Council – of – Chiefs, have enjoined women to stay indoors from the night of Monday, September 20, 2021, till the morning of Tuesday, September 21, 2021, as part of the arrangements for ‘Oro’ Meri festival.
The Igbogbo community usually observes Oro festivals – ‘Abosan’ and ‘Meri’, twice a year with the first one held about a month ago.
The traditional festivals are part of the age – long rites which the people of the lgbogbo community use in appeasing gods and their ancestors and also for cleansing the town of diseases, evil occurrences and at the same time, offer prayers for positive developments.
In a statement signed by the Secretary to the Adeboruwa palace, Mr Kehinde Adekoya, the royal father and his chiefs thanked residents for their cooperation during the Oro ‘Abosan’ and also pleaded for the same level of cooperation during the Oro ‘Meri’ on Tuesday (tomorrow).
The statement reads:
“The Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom and Oba – in – Council heartily congratulate sons , daughters and all residents of Igbogbo on the recently concluded Abosan traditional festival. We appreciate you all for the seamless celebration”, it stated.
“Announcement is, hereby, also duly made to inform you that the Meri Traditional festival shall hold from dawn to dusk on Tuesday 21st September, 2021. All female residents are enjoined to remain indoor for the period of the festival.
“All commuters, particularly female commuters, are advised to ply alternative routes to and fro the centre of Igbogbo community during the period”, it added.
