-Residents commend Sen. Abiru, want same gesture extended to Yewa Grammar School
Pupils and staff of the Aga Primary School, Aga, Ikorodu in Ikorodu Division of Lagos State, Southwest, Nigeria, will resume into new blocks of classrooms when they return to school on Monday (today) after long holiday
The construction of the 4 blocks of 24 Classrooms and offices with toilets facilitated by the Senator representing the Lagos East Senatorial District, Sen. Mikhail Adetokunbo Abiru, were completed within a month.
Before now, the school was in a very sorry state save for a block for a block of classrooms facilitated by Hon. Abike Dabiri – Erewa some years back and another old building good enough to keep as poultry but unfortunately still serving pupils as classrooms.
But the commendable intervention of Senator Abiru has ensured that the school now has befitting classrooms, offices for teachers and head teachers and toilet facilities that will enhance learning and teaching environment.
Meanwhile, stakeholders in Ikorodu and residents of Aga have been commending Senator Abiru for his intervention which they described as positive for educational developments of young people.
They also pleaded with him to ensure that the terrible situation that also exists at Yewa Grammar School is reversed.
Alfa Bello, a community developer who resides at Borokinni Street, Aga, thanked the lawmaker for the project and enjoined him to bring same succour to Yewa Grammar School which shares the same compound with Aga Primary School.
“We are very happy with what Senator Mikhail Abiru did for us in providing blocks of classrooms at Aga Primary School, Ikorodu”, the resident said.
“The school wasn’t okay before his intervention which came because of the efforts of Baale Ibraheem Radelu, CDAs and other leaders in the community.
“The community had also been making effort to ensure that Yewa School, especially the junior school which is in a very sorry state, is also reconstructed but God has ordained that Aga Primary School would be the first to get attention.
“We are hoping that the government will deem it necessary as soon as possible to do the needful concerning Yewa School .
“We also appeal to our Senator or other representatives to see to it that both Yewa Junior and Senior Secondary Schools are also rehabilitated”, he pleaded.
Alhaji Kola Akinsanya, Chairman, Tuagaga CDA, Aga, Ikorodu, in his own response, also commended the Senator’s gesture.
“lt’s a commendable and nice project for the community. We, the CDAs in Aga, appreciate your (Senator Abiru) frantic community projects.
“Please, we need you to push for the construction of Olu – Odo/Adegbose Road off Igbogbo – Ebute Road, Ikorodu”, he said.
The Chairman of the Ikorodu – Oga Development Association, Mr Rotimi Erogbogbo, described the development as a welcome intervention which must be sustained.
“If you recall that IKODASS organized a stakeholders summit on education about two months ago and one of the resolutions is that there is a need for rehabilitation of many schools and establishment of more schools in some areas that lack educational facilities”, he recalled.
“We have seen what government and other private individuals have been doing in ensuring that we have good schools in Ikorodu and the massive blocks of classrooms and toilets facilitated by Senator will go a long way in enhancing education.
“Senator Abiru’s gesture is a welcome development for a school which previously had collapsed structures. The pupils would be happy to resume into new classrooms and they would be motivated more than before”, he added.
“We look forward to more interventions from the Senator and government in Yewa Junior and Senior Grammar Schools and other schools in Ikorodu”.
