About 100 U – 17 youths across Lagos State are set to participate in the maiden edition of the IKODASS (Ikorodu – Oga Development Association) Indoor Games Championship which will be held in Ikorodu between September 4 and 9, 2021.
The championship commenced yesterday (Saturday, September 4), with accreditations of participants at the Ita – Elewa Youth Centre, Ikorodu, Lagos State, Southwest, Nigeria.
The Eroz Place, located at 71, Borokinni Street, Aga, lkorodu, will also host some of the games.
Participants will be competing in four games – Chess, Scrabble, Table Tennis and Snooker.
All games start at 9.00am at designated venues.
As at the time of filing this report, 41 participants registered for the Chess game, 22 for Table Tennis, 14 for Scrabble and 5 for Snooker.
The game proper commences Tuesday, September 7, 2021, with Chess game which has the largest entries and Scrabble game. The two games will be held at the newly constructed pavilion hall of the Ita – Elewa Youth/Sports Centre, lta-Elewa, lkorodu.
Snooker will take centre stage on Wednesday, September 8 and participants that registered for the game are expected to converge on the EROZ Place for the game.
Table tennis game, which has the second largest entries, comes up on Thursday, September 9, at the Youth Centre hall, Ita – Elewa, Ikorodu.
The grand finale for the championship and medal/prize presentations will hold at the newly constructed pavilion of the Ita – Elewa Youth/Sports Centre, on the final day of the competition with invited dignitaries from the traditional institution, sporting circle, political class, as well as captains of industry and general residents expected to grace the occasion.
Ahaji Luqman Sonibare, the Chairman of the LOC, while addressing participants, parents and coaches, assured them of international standard competition.
He said that everything is in place for the kick – off of the maiden edition of the Championship.
“This is the maiden edition of the IKODASS Indoor Games Youth Championship and today is the accreditation and technically, the commencement of the games.
“You are assured of international standard organization and we are set to host you in your various games.
“Part of the reasons that you are here today is also to issue you with the official t-shirt for the championship and you must wear it for all games. You will not be allowed into the game hall without it”.
In a chat with the media men that attended the accreditation, the Secretary of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), Kunle Adelabu who also doubled as the Media Officer for the Championship, said that parents and coaches are taking advantage of the extension of the registration to register their children, wards and trainees.
