Oriwu College Ikorodu Hosts Lagos East Summer Camp

The best school in Nigeria and the premier college in Ikorodu Division, Oriwu College, is currently playing host to children across the Lagos State East Senatorial District for the second edition of the Lagos Summer Camp.

Participants are students from both public and private schools between nine and 15 years of age.

The camp was declared opened on Sunday, August 22, 2021, by the Director – General of the Lagos Sports Commission (LSSC), Mr Ouwatoyin Gafaar Bolowotan who was accompanied by other officials of the commission.

Badagry phase of the camp, which served the Lagos West Senatorial District, was concluded on Saturday, August 21, after a week of sporting, educational and recreational engagements.

One of the officials on ground at the camp who is the State Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Comrade Olalekan Biliamin Oba, spoke with THE IMPACT on Tuesday (yesterday) when our reporter visited the camp.

Kids that were brought to the camp by their parents on Sunday were issued with ID cards, kits and other necessary things after registration.

“They are going to be engaging in sporting activities like table tennis, taekwondo, judo, javelin, volleyball and basketball depending on their area of interests”, he said.

“Aside games, they are also going to be engaged in skills activities like hat making, makeup, hairdressing and artwork among others.

“Equally, they are going to be trained on how to produce solar panel and power bank”, he added.

The number one youth in the state also said that there was orientation for the participants on arrival at the camp yesterday by Mr Scott Ikporo and Dr Sanmi , both of whom prepared the kids for what they will be experiencing in the camp in the next one week.

According to him, daily routine of the campers are aerobics around 6.30am daily after which they will engage in different games, depending on their choice.

Oba added that the participants would have soft skill classes after lunch before retiring to their hostels while they would be engaged in other activities later in the evening.
