Kunle Adelabu
The Deputy Editor-in Chief of the Oriwu Sun newspaper and a leading drummer in Ikorodu, Hadj Kazim Ganiu – Sanni, has been installed as the ‘Olori’ (head) of drummers in Ikorodu Division.
He was capped on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, at the Itunmoja – Ikorodu home of the former head of the drummers.
Chief Sanni will now succeed Pa Kashimawo (Baba Onilu) as the leader of the Ayanparapo (drummers) & Musicians Association of Ikorodu Division.
At the capping ceremony were heads of drummers from Iperu, Shagamu, ljebu-Ode, Ilisan-Remo and other areas.
Before the capping of the new lkorodu drummers’ leader, all the leading drummers that attended the ceremony from far and near took turns to pray for his successful tenure and long reign.
Hundreds of drummers within and outside Ikorodu town were on ground with their tool of trade to honour Hadj Sanni as they intermittently disrupted proceedings with sound of drums to eulogise the new leader.
After the installation/capping ceremony, the drummers led the newly intalled chief, in the company of chieftains of the association, family members and guests, on procession from Itunmoja through Ajina, to his family house located at Owode in Ikorodu, where an elaborate and memorable reception party was held.
Among the important guests that graced the occasion were Chief Monzor Kolawole Olowosago, the Publisher/Editor – in Chief, Oriwu Sun and Baroyin of Ikorodu Kingdom, Alhaji Alade Abiodun, a chieftain of the Oriwu Central Mosque, Chief Wasiu Adekunle Layembi Oyenuga, the Olootu Lasunwon Ruling House, Alhaji Wahab, former Deputy Chairman, Ikorodu – Oga Development Association (IKODASS), Alhaji Musiliu Animasaun (De Cubano) and Chief Adebambo among many others.
Also at the ceremony were colleagues of the new ‘Olori Onilu’ in the fourth estate of the realm (Journalism profession).
