The Director-General, Lagos State Sports Commission, Oluwatoyin Gafaar Bolowotan, has unveiled the Commission’s plans at selecting student athletes across the six education districts in the State.
The DG said that the Youth Games, which is scheduled to hold in Ilorin, Kwara State, from 10th-20th October, 2021, will feature only Pupils from State Public and Private Schools.
In a release by the Commission on Friday (yesterday), the Lagos Sports DG, who made the revelation during a Zoom Meeting with Association Chairmen on Friday, also said that the Associations will be involved in the process of selection.
He also said that Out – of – School students and those above the age of 15 will not be eligible to compete in the events.
“We are all going to do it together from bottom up. Every participant must be in School with the point of reference from the Ministry of Education to the Sports Commission and Associations”, said Gafaar.
The LSSC DG urged Association Chairmen to look critically into the development Programmes, adding that Competitions that will be beneficial to the Athletes and the state should be their top priority.
He also added that the Chairmen should intensify their efforts in inviting more Private people to invest in Sports programmes and development.
Gafaar further noted that the Lagos State Government, led by Mr.Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has approved the building of eight mini Stadia across the state, including the renovation of the Teslim Balogun Stadium, stating further that, with this development, Lagos is ready to host Africa and the World.
“Community Games is underway with 18 Sports which cut across the 20 LGAs and 37 LCDAs and it will commence in September, 2021”, Oluwatoyin said.
