-We aim to develop champions for Ikorodu
As part of its youth development and engagement activities, the Ikorodu – Oga Development Association (IKODASS) will, in September this year, stage an indoor games championship for youths in Ikorodu.
The sporting event, tagged, ‘IKODASS Indoor Games Youth Championship’, will accommodate U -17 participants and will be held between Saturday, September 4 and Saturday, Saturday 11, 2021, at four centres – Ita Elewa Youth Centre, Eroz Place, Crystal Club and Rhoda Youth Centre.
Games that intending participants will be entering for are – Snooker, Chess, Scrabble, Draught, Ayo Olopon, Ludo and Table Tennis (male and female) with prize money of N50, 000, N30, 000 and N20, 000 for winners, first and second runners-up respectively.
For the game of Ludo, Ayo Olopon and Draught, the prize money will be N30, 000, N20, 000 and N10, 000 for the winner, first and second runners–up respectively.
Entry forms for all game categories can be downloaded from IKODASS website: www.ikoroduoga.com.ng, after which the form should be printed out for submission at the IKODASS office, Olubi Street, Ikorodu Town hall, alongside N1, 000 entry fee.
Interested young persons, their parents, agents, coaches or associations can also obtain the form at the IKODASS Town hall office.
In a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the IKODASS Chairman, it stated that the championship is designed to raise new crops of talents, develop them and promote them to attain state, national and international prominence.
“Our aim is to provide a platform for our young people; engage them and nurture their talents. What we intend doing is to initiate this championship and sustain it into an annual sporting event that everybody will be looking forward to”, it said
“Through this championship, we want to create many champions in indoor games for Ikorodu and make them ready for state, national and international championships.
He appealed to corporate organizations, individuals and bodies to take advantage of the opportunity by supporting IKODASS in staging a successful championship as a way of supporting the development of the young ones.
“This is an opportunity for corporate organisations around to take advantage of by supporting us. By partnering with us, they can have their products and services further exposed to consumers through venue branding and other forms of advertisement while setting up experiential stands for championship followers to encounter their brands afresh at each centre” the statement said.
“It will go a long way to show that these brands and organistions actually care for the development of young residents in Ikorodu.
“It is important to note that some of these games, aside from being played as competitions, also promote bonding within families and friends. They bring the community together” it added.
The championship is open to all. Entry Forms closes on the 31st of August 2021.
