The Lagos State Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folashade Adefisayo, has revealed that the state government has reviewed the curriculum for schools in the state. She added the reviewed curriculum is currently being piloted.
Mrs Adefisayo made the disclosure during the visit of the Ikorodu – Oga Development Association (IKODASS) delegation, led by its Chairman, Mr Rotimi Erogbogbo, to her office at the Ministry of Education, Alausa, lkeja.
She also revealed that the state government is introducing skill acquisition into the secondary school system to accommodate students that are not interested in furthering their education to the higher institutions but prefer to acquire vocational skills.
“We have just reviewed the curriculum in our schools but have not yet launched it. We are piloting it”, Mrs Adefisoye said.
“Since not every child will go to the University or Polytechnic , we are planning to start a scheme to accommodate students who don’t want to further their education but are interested in acquiring skills.
“We are going to start with a pilot scheme in September. It will be in a normal school environment.
Adefisoye, who said that the state government gave out gadgets to students during the COVID-19 lockdown to improve and support their studies, also revealed that the government will be buying more gadgets for the students in Senior Secondary School three later this year.
She also said that efforts are on to install internet facilities in schools across the state.
“Lagos State Government will be buying more gadgets to be distributed to SSS 3 students across the state to improve their studies but they cannot do without social media on it.
“Hence, we are laying underground cables that will be going into schools so that they can have unlimited access to the internet.
The Honourable Commissioner, while stating that teachers in public schools have been encouraged and motivated to perform better in the state, also added that government is planning to extend Eko Excel to Secondary Schools in the state.
“Eko Excel has trained about 15, 000 teachers in Lagos and we are also taking them out. We are planning to extend the Eko Excel initiative to secondary schools”, she revealed.
