Engr. Oshin Emerges African Church Cathedral Warden

Engr. Sunday Oshin, the Cathedral Warden -elect thanking members of the Church at the Vestry after his election.

History was made on Sunday (yesterday) at The African Church Bethel Cathedral in Ikorodu as a young engineer, Sunday Oshin, emerged as the youngest Cathedral Warden (Prime Minister) ever in the history of the Church in a keenly contested election.

He was elected alongside other officers and trustees of the Church at the 2021 Vestry Meeting of the seat of the Lagos West Missionary Diocese.

Engr. Oshin had served in many capacities in the Church before his election as the Warden.

The Cathedral Warden – Elect polled 45 votes to beat Comrade Kehinde Okeowo and Mr Ropo Esho who scored 44 and 22 votes respectively.

At the meeting, the 2019 and 2020 Cathedral Council reports were presented by the Cathedral Secretary, Mr Oluwaseyi A. Adelabu.

The financial report of the Church was presented by Mr Shotuminu Oludemi, the Cathedral Treasurer, while Mr Olukayode Bilewu and Mr Abayomi Anibaba, Cathedral Auditor I and II respectively.

Engr. Oshin in his acceptance speech, thanked the Bishop, Cathedral Management and the entire congregation for the support and peaceful election.

He described his election as a new dawn in The African Church Bethel Cathedral, Ikorodu, while assuring that he and his team will not disappoint.

Earlier, The Rt. Revd. Hezekhiah Adeleke Adetoro, Chairman/Vicar, Cathedral Church and Bishop, Lagos West Missionary Diocese, in his Pastoral report, thanked members of the Church for their support towards taking the Church to a place of pride.

“Every one of you deserved my appreciation, and I say thank you to you all for your contributions towards our noble objectives to take this Church to a place of pride. God bless you all.

“Needless to say that we still have a long way to go and a long journey to cover. I will like to appeal to us all to tie our girdles so hard, with love as our guiding principles, and the sky will be the beginning of our lofty achievements in the years ahead by the grace of God.

“As this year’s vestry will usher in new officers and new ideas, let us allow the Lord Almighty to have His way in choosing for us. Let there be correct peace and fear of God in all our utterances and altercations, so that at the end, the Lord will take all the glory”, Bishop Adetoro charged members of the Church.

Elder (Dr) Timothy A. Okeowo, Elder O.A. Abiodun and Elder Taiwo Fakunmoju emerged as Cathedral Trustees. They are to join Trustee Emeritus, Pa Amos Oshin, Elder O.O. Ilubanwo and Elder Tele Oduloye in the Trustees’ Council.

Other officers that emerged unopposed in the election announced by the Vestry Secretary, Ms Kehinde Adenike Adelabu are Oluwaseyi A. Adelabu (Cathedral Secretary), Mrs Aderoju Shobowale (Financial Secretary), Elder S.O. Oludemi (Treasurer), Mr Osho Abiodun Vestry Secretary), Barr. Olajire Abiodun (Legal Adviser), Evangelist Omobola Ilubanwo (Medical Adviser), Mrs Yinka Majekodunmi (PRO), Mr Kunle Bada (Pastor’s Warden) and Mr Enitan Awosanya (Verger).
