About 1500 beneficiaries of the Sen. Tokunbo Abiru’s COVID – 19 Financial Assistance will, today, receive credit alert.
The intervention scheme started in January 2021, with two groups of beneficiaries getting N5000 each as financial support on bi – monthly basis.
The beneficiaries of the scheme are spread across the 16 council areas in the Lagos East Senatorial District which Senator Abiru is representing in the Upper Chamber (Senate) of the National Assembly.
According to the statement by the Special Adviser to Senator Tokunbo Abiru on Media and Publicity, Mr Enitan Olukotun, the support scheme, which keeps expanding to accommodate more people, is in fulfillment of the former bank executive’s campaign pledge.
He said that 1,144 beneficiaries will today receive their credit alerts.
“For six consecutive months running, 1,144 beneficiaries of the Senator Tokunbo Abiru COVID-19 Financial Assistance received direct credit in their respective bank accounts today across 98 wards of the 16 Local Council areas in the Lagos East Senatorial District”, the statement said.
“The assistance scheme, which is expanding every month to accommodate more vulnerable people in the district, kicked off in January 2021, in fulfilment of the promise made by the Senator during the electioneering to provide succour to the poorest of the poor across Lagos East Senatorial District.
“Selected beneficiaries have been getting N5000 assistance bimonthly (i.e once in two months) since the beginning of the year and it will run through the year by way of direct credit to their bank accounts”, the statement further stated.
“Beneficiaries include physically-challenged persons, unemployed youths, widows and other vulnerable people in the senatorial district” he said.
While stating that the Senator is delivering on all of his campaign pledges, Olukotun added that Abiruhas been impacting on the constituents and the country at large through legislative and representative activities.
“Senator Tokunbo Abiru is keeping faith with his promise to always prioritise policies and legislative agenda that will be of benefit to the greatest number of people”, he said.
“In less than 6 months in the saddle, Senator Tokunbo Abiru sponsored a bill titled, ‘The Copyright Act Repeal And Re-enactment Bill, 2021, that will replace the extant Copyright Act Cap C28 LFN 2004.
“The critical bill, which will revolutionize the knowledge and intellectual property industry, has scaled second reading on the floor of the Senate.
“Concerned about the plight of constituents and other road users plying Ikorodu/Sagamu Road and Ikorodu/Itoikin/Epe Epe Road, the distinguished Senator moved a motion calling on the Federal Government to urgently intervene on the two critical roads.
“Within the same period, the Senator also facilitated four blocks of 24 classrooms to Aga Primary School in Ikorodu. Construction is currently underway. The four blocks have six classrooms each and 16 toilets”, he said.
