Badmus Uthman Breaks 26 Years Old Jinx, Emerges 31st LASUSU President

Badmus Oladapo Uthman, the 31st President – elect, Lagos State University Students’ Union.

Badmus Oladapo Uthman, of the Faculty of Education, Lagos State University (LASU) has emerged the President of the Institution’s Students’ Union in a keenly contested election held on Tuesday, 15th June, 2021.

Other executives that will work alongside the new president were elected, too, in a free and fair election.

In a statement on the official Facebook page of the institution, the LASU authority said that Badmus broke a 26 year old jinx as he polled 3,437 votes against his law opponent’s 1,686 votes to coast home to victory.

The last time Faculty of Education produced the president of the union was in 1996, when Sulaimon Arigbabuwo( Bruno) defeated other candidates to lead the Students’ Union.

The Zenith ICT, Main  Campus, Ojo, venue of the announcement of the final results in the evening by the Chairman, Independent Electoral Committee, Abdul Hamid Areh, was jam packed as the students in their large number trooped in to get a first hand information of those who would steer the ship of their union for the next one year.

“They all waited patiently in the face of suspense as the electoral committee put finishing touches to the final Collation of results” the statement.

“As soon as the results were announced with that of the new president announced last, it was ecstacy, song of victory and jubilation by his supporters as Badmus was declared the new president to lead the Lagos State University Students’ Union for the next one year.

“The electronic voting took place across the three campuses( Ojo, Ikeja and Epe) of the University Simultaneously.

“The voting started early, with the students exercising their franchise,  orderly and peacefully at the designated voting centres at the different faculties under the watchful eyes of the security personnel of the university and other security agents.

“There was no untoward incident as the atmosphere was a convivial one as the voters exchanged pleasantries and banters , while the agents of the contestants maintained law and order, too. The ICT staff were on hand to provide assistance where necessary.

The statement also said that duo of the Dean, Students’ Affairs, Dr. Tajudeen Olumoko and Director, ICT, Dr. Toyin Enikuomehin, who were on hand during the declaration of the final results, also went round  the election venues to ensure was conducted free and fair.
