A leading aspirant for the chairmanship position in Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area (LCDA) on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Mathew Aliu Adesanya, has raised security alarm concerning the primary election holding tomorrow.
The aspirant also assured that the party machinery is capable of handling the any security threat and ensure that party members exercise their rights to elect aspirants of their choice as candidates for the Local Government election coming up on July 24.
Hon. Adesanya spoke with journalists today while also announcing voting centres across the Ikorodu North LCDA where party members are to vote.
“I am addressing you this morning because of what I consider as security threat for tomorrow's primary election in Ikorodu North LCDA” he said.
“My plea to my constituents is that they should go out peacefully to exercise their rights.
“I am very sure that our party, the All Progressives Congress, is up to the task, concerning security of our members during the primary election.
“I trust that they are doing everything humanly possible to ensure that the security is effective and efficient so as to enable all the voters to cast their votes”, he said.
He reminded party members that the primary election is an arrangement by the party to select its candidates amongst aspirants vying for the chairmanship and councillorship positions which he's one of them.
He pleaded that party members should vote for him while adding that vying for public offices should be about development and not violence.
“Tomorrow’s election is an internal mechanism by the party to elect its candidates amongst various aspirants which l am one of them”, Hon. Adesanya said.
“I deem it fit to address my people that on Saturday, May 29, which is tomorrow, they are free from 8.00am to take their APC membership card to their centres and vote for me.
“All that I want to sue for is peace. I beg all of you to show decorum in whatever that you want to do tomorrow.
“There is noting that we are going to gain in running after one another trying to kill or maim ourselves.
“If the purpose of vying for a position is for development, I see no reason we should engage ourselves in violence.
He announced centres for the primary election across the Ikorodu North LCDA.
“For Ward E1, Odogunyan, the centre is the Farm Settlement Primary School, along Shagamu road.
“Ward E2 centre is African Bethel Primary School, Maya.
“Ward E3 which is Agbala, it is Model Primary School, also along Shagamu road, beside Sawmill.
“The primary election for Ward E4 will hold at the St. Saviors Primary School, Igbaga, in Olorunda and for Ward B3, Isiwu, the centre is Community School, Isiwu”, he announced.
“Those are the venues for the primary election in Ikorodu North tomorrow.
“Once again, my plea to my constituents is that they should go out peacefully” he pleaded.
Giving more insights regarding the conduct of the primary election tomorrow, Hon. Adesanya said:
“There will be two ballot boxes for the primary. All that the voters need to do is to collect ballot papers from the electoral officers and fill in the name of their preferred candidate for the chairmanship and Councilorship positions.
“It is going to be an open secret ballot, once you have written the name of your preferred candidate on the ballot paper, you will then drop it in the box.
“It is after this that the electoral officials will count and announce the results of the votes at various centres in case of the Councilorship positions.
“For the Chairmanship results, the announcement will be made at the LGA collation centre after the collation of results from various wards by the Returning Officer”, he explained
