A leading Chairmanship aspirant in Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Mathew Alliu Adesanya, has revealed that his aspiration to occupy the number one seat in the council is a rescue mission for development.
The aspirant, who is a former Secretary to the Ikorodu North LCDA and former Councilor representing Odogunyan area of the council, said that he is going to develop the council if elected through his agenda tagged, ‘MERCY’.
He made this assurance while flagging – off his campaign at the playing field of the Farm Settlement Primary School, Odogunyan, Ikorodu, on Saturday, May 22, 2021.
Also at the event, the leading aspirant unveiled his agendas which focus on the upgrading of educational sector, effective security network, development of good business atmosphere for investors and small scale businesses, infrastructural development, impactful empowerment programmes among many others.
At the campaign rally were APC Chieftains, Baales, Arewa community, Igbo community, South – South people, APC Ward Chairmen and members, NURTW, RTEAN, Okada riders, Market association, Igede people, LACOSTA, Erikorodo Progressives, National Automobiles Association, Youth groups, LASPOTECH SUG, Community Development Association/Community Development Committee, religious bodies and various security outfits among many others.
Each of the groups and associations at the rally took their turn in marching to show solidarity for the aspirant.
He said that his knowledge of the council and the needs of each segment would help in the implementation of his agenda.
“Today, I offer my candidacy for chairmanship of lkorodu North Local Council Development Area because I believe I have the experience that counts. With you, I believe we can achieve the good things we imagine”, Hon. Adesanya said.
“It is a fact that I have traversed all the nooks and crannies of this L.C.D.A; there is no community, town or village that I have not been to in Ikorodu North LCDA. I know you and you all know me. For many years now, we have been partners in the pursuit of development and the greatest happiness for our people.
“This is why I stand before you today to say that l want to be the Executive Chairman of lkorodu North Local Council Development Area (LCDA).
“After a rigorous consultation process within and outside our party, the APC, I am here to seek yoursupport because a great city is measured by the quality of the lives of the people who live in it. Now is the time for a leadership that is concerned about taking on the city's toughest challenges and l am asking for your votes in order to be voted into office to provide a government that is truly for the people.
“I seek the chairmanship position based on my personal conviction that I have a record of service to the people of lkorodu North Local Development Area. A record I am willing to build on.
“ I inform you all today that we are ready to rescue and develop the local government with our MERCY Agenda: M – Massive development E – Elimination of poverty, R – Reconstruction of dilapidated structures, C – Creation of wealth and Y – Yielding of democratic dividends.
“Working together with you; we will ensure the rehabilitation of existing schools, roads, libraries, boreholes, drainages, refuse dumps, and other infrastructure and we will also facilitate the emergence of new ones where necessary.
“It is our plan to also design a mechanism to support students in their academic career. This is to ensure that our learners are encouraged to give their best at all times.
“Giving my antecedents, be sure that I will ensure a very effective security structure that will salvage our present security threat.
“This, I will do in conjunction with security agencies. I strongly believe in an expanded community policing partnership within our neighborhoods, and I consent to quality training of the men at all times”, he added.
“Importantly, I will create a climate that encourages businesses and entrepreneurs to follow their ingenuity and invest in their ideas.
“Our market men and women, artisans and others like them, shall enjoy financial aid that will support their businesses.
“While we shall be subtle in our revenue generation, a meaningful revenue generation mechanism will be put in place and appropriation shall always be within the ambit of the law.
He said that his government policy, if elected, will be pro – people.
“As our council moves forward into this new pedestal, I will be a chairman that convinces people that they are important to the policies and successes of lkorodu North Local Council Development Area”, he said.
“That is why I strongly support regular empowerment programmes and provision of job opportunities by relevant agencies, as a way of improving the life of our people.
“Ours will be a leadership that measures and balances the needs of every neighborhood, of every person, in determining policies and projects.
Hon. Adesanya said that he would work for Community Development Committee (CDC) and Community Development Associations (CDAs) when he gets to office.
“To lead this council as the next chairman, I will work tirelessly with the Community Development Association (CDAs) through the Community Development Committee (CDC) and synergize to build virile and progressive communities”, the aspirant.
“I will enhance mutual cooperation and understanding with our traditional institutions and other community leaders.
“Let me say this again, emphatically, this is where I grew up; where I got married; where I went to school and where my kids attend school today.
“This is where I have lived all my life, following in the traditions of community – based public services. I know what this local council is, I know what it has been, and I know what it can still become”, he emphasized.
“Every government must work for the people, and with the people. That’s what I’ve done. That’s whatI’ve been doing. And that’s what I’ll do when you elect me as the next chairman of lkorodu North LCDA”, he assured.
“I grew up right in the neighborhoods of the LCDA. Here, I learnt that you usually get more done when you work with people. Team work, I have learnt, makes a real difference in people’s lives. And what matters most to me is the people”, he said.
Tracing his antecedents, Hon. Adesanya said that he had been trusted with positions of responsibility and that he delivered and impacted positively.
He also listed his achievements in the various position of responsibilities he had held, both formerly and pesently, adding that he has been at the forefront of protecting the interest of the community.
“Thrice, I had been entrusted with important offices in the local council Development Area-first as a councilor, then as the secretary to the local Government (SLG), and then as a special Adviser to the Executive chairman”, he said.
“All the above listed assignments have given me unique preparation for the job I seek today. My records of previous service speak for me.
“To highlight a few, I facilitated the first tarred road in Odogunyan (Ojuemuren Road) and I am still facilitating repair of several roads till date within the LCDA.
“I facilitated the construction of a storey building at the Odogunyan Secondary School; I championed advocacy and coordination of security matter in Ikorodu North and its environs, and I am still doing this to save lives and property through the formation of YAGO security outfit and affiliating it with Onyabo Vigilant group.
“I am still leading the security outfit and advocating on security matters till date.
“I assisted several youths in Ikorodu to gain employment in both public and private organisations.
“Similarly, I have assisted several people on health matters, including direct payment of surgeries for indigent constituents.
“I have always been at the forefront of protecting the interest of Ikorodu North LCDA and its people.
“I have experience where it counts – right here in Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area.
“I am proud of my records, I will offer new ideas for our ever-changing local government.
Hon. Mathew said that there is still much to be done in developing Ikorodu North LCDA.
“There is so much work to be done and I am ready to lead a team of progressive minded people among you to deliver on the promises we are making. We will not just talk; we will lead; we will not just lead; we will work”, he assured.
Speaking at the flag – off, the Director – General of the aspirant’s campaign group, Mr Wale Olowolagba, thanked party leaders and members, associations and groups that have identified and supported the aspirant’s campaign.
He charged them to ensure that they campaign in respective their streets and convince people, especially card – carrying members of the APC, to vote for Hon. Mathew Adesanya, on May 30 during the primary election.
Also speaking, Chairman of Council of Baales in Ikorodu, Chief Mufutau Jimoh Odusoga, Baale Omitoro, described Hon. Adesanya as a good person that must be supported to emerge as the Chairman of the Council.
In the same vein, the representative of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Ikorodu North LCDA also prayed for the aspirant’s victory both at the primary and main elections, while his muslim counterpart, Chief Imam of Ikorodu North LCDA, represented by Imam Owoyalumo, also described the aspirant as a truthful and supportive person.
The Baba – Oloja General of Ikorodu North LCDA, in his own remarks, charged all the market men and women and entire party members to support and vote Hon. Adesanya for good governance and better life.
Alhaji Hussein, who represented the Community Development Associations (CDAs) in lkorodu North, also charged residents to support the aspirant whom he described as a trusted and tested community developer.
