The Senior Citizens Forum which is an association of retired Principals, Head Teachers, School Managers and Teachers in Ikorodu has adopted the candidacy of Hon. Azeez Abiodun Jimoh Olosugbo for the Chairmanship position for the Ikorodu Local Government.
The forum which has eminent personalities, chieftains of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and others influential personalities endorsed the aspiration of the young politician at the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) secretariat which is the forum base at the weekend.
After adopting the young aspirant, the senior citizens also offered special prayers to support his aspiration.
At the meeting, Hon. Azeez Olosugbo while soliciting for the support of the senior members of the society who are card – carrying members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) said that he deemed it fit to consult them because they are also major stakeholders who have roles to play in the redirecting Ikorodu towards greatness.
“I am here today not only to pay homage to our revered teachers and senior citizens but also to solicit for your supports in the coming Local Government election especially the APC primary.
“Although, you are retired as Principals, Head Teachers, School Managers and Teachers, but you made impact on people like us and make us what we are today even though, many thought we can be anything then.
“We still need your experience, personalities and guidance in many things that we plan to do if elected as the Chairman of Ikorodu LG. But before then, we need you to mobilise your constituencies for us to win the primary elections” he solicited.
Revealing part of his agenda if elected, Hon. Olosugbo who said that he sponsored more than ten bills as Councilor and later as Council Leader in Ikorodu LG, expressed that those laws has not been implemented by the administration in the council.
Some of these laws – Ikorodu Local Government Security Law; Law on Commercial, Private and Corporate Parks and Registration; Law on Street Naming; Traffic Control and many others.
“One of the areas that we are going to focus on is the security. We want to make out community safe for everyone to live in and for businesses to grow.
“We intend to partner with Onyabo and other local vigilance groups, CDAs, Street owners and other stakeholders.
“We want to create IT hub in and around the Ikorodiu garage/Lagos road for the teeming of our youths that are doing well in this regard and only needing enabling environment to thrive” he said.
Asiwaju Lateef Oduguwa, a chieftain of the Senior Citizen Forum, former Chairman, NUT, Ikorodu and retire Head Teacher, Oga Primary School, commended Hon. Olosugbo for considering members of the group for consultation.
“I am not surprise that you are here because you are very good at what you or anything that you set your mind to do. Some of us know your activities while you are Personal Assistant to the lawmaker representing Ikorodu in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
“We are also aware of your roles while you are a Councilor and later Council Leader in the Legislative Arm of the Ikorodu LG. I have no doubt in your capacity to be Chairman of the Council. You are capable and more qualified than other aspirants. I am not saying this because you are here” Asiwaju Oduguwa said.
“On behalf of members of this Forum that are seated here, you are assured of our support. We are going to mobilise for you in the primary election and in the Chairmanship “ he assured the aspirant.
Also speaking, Mr Lemmy Anibaba popularly called, ‘The School Boy’ who was a retired Principal also commended Olosugbo for his activities in the APC and in the development of Ikorodu.
He described the aspirant as a loyal, dedicated and trusted young man who can lead Ikorodu LG with vision and passion required on the modern time to take the council to a greater height.
He pledged his support for the young politician aspiration to clinch the Ikorodu LG Chairmanship seat in the forthcoming LG election.
Mrs Bisi Bello – Mustapha, another chieftain of the group and a retired Head Teacher, Lajo Primary School, Igboogbo/Bayeku LCDA, also commended the aspirant and declared his support for him.
While speaking, Mrs Mustapha said that through Hon. Olosugbo, NUT Ikorodu and the Senior Citizens Forum have been receiving patronages from his political group, Onward Movement of Nigeria which has the Majority Leader of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Sanai Agunbiade as its Convener/General Overseer.
Other that spoke also pledged their supports for the Chairmanship aspirant and assured the aspirant of support from the NUT, AOPSHON and other educational groups.
Also at the meeting are Elder Azeez Akinola, Elder Rafiu Adebanjo Lasisi, Elder (Mrs) Olapade and Comrade Babatunde Owolabi among others.
