Comrade Babayemisi Kehinde Fakunmoju, on Saturday, May 1, 2021, publicly declared his intention to represent the Ward E2 Erikorodo in the Legislative Arm of the Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area of Ikorodu Division, Lagos, Southwest, Nigeria.
The grassroots politician and community developer, made his declaration at a well – attended ceremony held at Parafa, along Ikorodu – Itoikin Road, Ikorodu North LCDA.
The event, had in attendance, political leaders, religious leaders, traditional chiefs, community developers, youth representatives and his supporters in large numbers.
Comrade Fakunmoju is currently the Joint Chairman, Community Development Association (CDA) E2, with over 50 CDAs.
Unveiling his 7 – Point Agenda, themed, ‘THEATRE’ (Transparency, Honesty, Empowerment, Accountability, Transportation, Equity and Reliability), Comrade Fakunmoju promised the people of Erikorodu a robust representation that would bring about development.
Members of his campaign team, led by Comrade Efe – Nudu Joseph as the Director – General, were also inaugurated at the declaration.
“I want to assure you of a robust representation that would reflect on the lives of the common man on the street.
“I will use my experience as a grassroots politician and as a community leader to bring the right development to the good people of ward E2 and Ikorodu North as a whole.
“I feel honoured by your presence as I offer myself to serve the good people of Erikorodo ward and l also want to use the opportunity to offer our people visionary, competent and purposeful leadership.
“I am happy that our party has adopted the modified open Primaries in selecting its flag bearers at the forthcoming local government election in the state. This will ensure the emergence of candidates whose mandate will be informed by the popular will of the members of our party”, he said.
The grassroots mobiliser said that he will use his experience as a community developer in dealing with challenges and give people of Ward E2 Erikorodo quality representation in the council.
“Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, leadership is about staying focused to achieve goals irrespective of the challenges. As one of the Executives of the CDC in Ikorodu North LCDA, Secretary of the Police/CDA forum, lkorodu North LCDA, Chief Whip, Community Policing Forum(CPF) Ikorodu Division, and the Chairman of United Joint CDA, Erikorodo ward, with over fifty-five(55) CDAs, we have been faced with challenges but with the support of our team, we have been able to surmount the challenges and remain focus in bringing good governance to the people at the grassroots.
“I want to lead or be part of a government that will invest in its people because people constitute the wealth of any nation and the primary purpose of any government is the provision of welfare and protection of lives and property.
“Hence, I want to lead or be part of a government of Unity where every resident would be treated equally regardless of our ethnic, religious and political differences. When we send our children to schools, when we board public transport and when we go to the market, we don’t ask ourselves what party, ethnics or religious group we belong to.
“Fellow party men and women, my desire to run for the Councillorship position was borne out of my conviction to serve my people diligently, having acquired the required skills, attitude and knowledge as a community leader. I believe I have what it takes to represent the good people of ward E2″.
Alhaji Aregbesola Azeez, the Chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC) Ward E2, described the aspirant as a man who is committed to his aspiration.
“Babayemisi is very committed to this project and he’s the only one that has so far written his letter of intention to the party.
“If others too show their interests, there will be a primary election through which we will pick the candidate.
“I want to tell you that you should not be intimidated but go out and campaign and let your people know what you want to do for them”, he charged the aspirant.
Elder Olu Omoniyi, the APC Chairman in Ward E, lkorodu North, said that the aspirant has proven to be a progressive and commended him for his initiative.
“This is a progressive initiative from one of our aspirants. He is a true progressive and an example of the kind of person that we are looking for.
“He has been participating in the development of his community and I wish him well”.
Former Vice Chairman, Ikorodu North LCDA, Hon. Haruna Ishola, while enjoining Comrade Fakunmoju to intensify his campaign and win the primary election, added that his agenda has shown that he has plans for his people.
He said that his colorful declaration will help in promoting the party and called on the members of the party and residents to give him support.
Hon. Haruna also charged the aspirant to be equitable in dealing with people when he is elected.
Alhaji Musa Lamina, the Chief Imam, Ikorodu North LCDA, said that Fakunmoju is a divine messenger like Prophet Mohammed, who is sent to represent his people.
“Speaking on behalf of the entire Muslim community in Ikorodu North LCDA, we are giving our support to Fakunmoju and we know that he will represent us very well if elected.
“I want you all to give him maximum support”, he pleaded.
Chief Mikhail Agbaku, Baale Itele Agbaaku, and Chief Afolabi, Baale Parafa, also called for support for the aspirant and while charging him to endeavor to provide quality representation if elected.
Also at the declaration were Mr Winjobi Muftau, Vice Chairman,E2 Joint CDA, Pastor (Comrade) Tunde Ige, Chairman, Asiwaju CDA, Maya Itele – Nla among many others.
